6 month-How much is to much?
I post this same question on the main message board, but I thought Indiana folk could help me out. I'm doing 6 month doctor supervised diet and exercise evaluation. I have 5 more to go. My question is... How much weight should I lose during this time? I can lose weight ok I just can keep it off and I never get to my goal weight. Is it true that if I lose to much they (the insurance company) will think I can lose the weight on my own and not except me? My BMI is now at 49.6. I afraid doing the right thing could hurt me. I don't want the insurance company to turn me down because I've lost to much. I've worked hard to get where I am now and I don't want to mess it up. I understand after I get approved I need to lose for surgery and I'll do my best to do so, I just got to get to that point. Any advise welcome.
Thanks Terri

Sweetie, did you know that you were on the IL board? There might be someone pre op on our board that can help you. Some of your questions might be answered by calling your doc's office and ask them what their experience has been with this issue and also to ask the ins. co the same question.
As an answer I was never on the supervised diet try but had a practice diet (learning a new lifestyle for PO) with my doctor's office. i was not told to loose any weight and my insurance went with the weight that I originally weighed in at. I did loose 6# on the practice diet which was a plus.
Good luck in your endeavors.

I'm a pre-op and I am wondering the same thing. I was told (in a roundabout way) by two people not to lose too much weight because it can be a catch 22. I have the guidelines from my insurance company and it says I've got to lose 5% of my weight in this six months. I will probably lose more than that though. I have not devised a plan to make sure I lose "some but not too much" yet. If you come up with anything good please let me know!
