Hello everyone ! I'm new here, was web-searching some info and came across this site. LOOKS GREAT! This is definitely something I can use to help me thru the process. Maybe in turn I can help those down the road. I was at the seminar in Arlington Hts on the 14th, it was really eye opening. Learned a ton. Dr. Guske is definitely someone who I think I can trust. There were great post-op people there also, very nice to see people who already have been thru it. One of my goals now is to BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE!! I would love to come in and tell everyone of the sucess I'm going to have with all of this. *** I had a question, not sure if this is the proper forum to do so, but here it goes... I have BCBS PPO... I heard about the 6 month diet, and all those requirments by insurance companies.  Towards the end of the talk I heard the girl (forget her name, very informative) mention something about "Federal Employees" not having to wait the 6 months or go thru that... is this true ??? Anyone familiar with this??

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Kev

Hi Neighbor! Dr. Guske did my surgery 18 months ago and you couldn't ask for anyone better.  Your are in very good hands with him. Sorry I can't help with your question regarding Federal BCBS.  You need call your benefits rep and ask for the protocol for approval.  They should be able to help. If I can answer any other questions, please feel free to ask.  Just PM me.
Regards and hugs,

Ronna

I have BCBS PPO and I am not sure about the federal employees. I have not heard that. I would call the customer service dept and ask. Welcome to the board

Hi Kevin.  I was also at the seminar and I think that Melissa (was that her name? lol) did say that the Federal Employees didn't have to do the 6 month diet.  I'm not positive though.  Wasn't it great to see all the PO people there at the different stages?  Which surgery are you going to have, do you know yet?

Monica

Hello there, my DH and I were there to speak as PO patients. Hope were beneficial to those listening. Sorry that I do not have the answer to your question. Did you call the Kane Center and ask them if they have any expertise in the matter? Other than that I would say for you to call your insurance company an ask one of the reps for the answer. But, keep in mind that you sometimes do not not get straight answers from insurance companies because all the reps cannot be experts in every person's particular plan. See if you can find something in your company handbook. Chris

Hi ! You guys were terrific !! I loved the thing you did witht he pants !!  If that doesn't show what can happen if you do this right, nothing will! What size pants were those anyway?? I did call Kane, but left a message.  Today they called back and of curse I missed the call, so I'll try again tomorrow. I just figured I'd throw the question out there since I found the site. I'm already lloking forward to the day I can burn my old clothes!!   Maybe I'll save one pair of pants to demonstrate like you guys...haha I know it's a long road, but I'm gla I finally decided to go forward. Those were size 60 shorts. And like Dave said they barely fit him so he probably was a size or two bigger when he had his surgery.  We both saved one or two items from our old wardrobe. It gives us a visual of where we have come from. We also have a picture of us in the shorts and I keep that on my cabinet in my cube. We both are still amazed that we can fit in the size clothing that we buy now. We gave and bought a lot of our transition clothing from charity resale shops. A lot of what we had was so worn out that we just threw them out.  Christine

Hey everyone! Thanks for the quick replies... I'm leaning towards the Gastric bypass, rather than the lap-band. I was the other wayaround until I went to the seminar.
