Thanx to all here sharing all of your stories. It has totally helped me change my view on WLS. My wife has talked about it over the years but I was dead set against it from a TV show YEARS ago and that person was riddle with severe issues and thought it was crazy... Fast forward to recent... I/we found out that is was a covered item with insurance... read more and found it acceptible in my mind to let the wife go thru it.... as I read more and more I now want it more than her lol... I have type2 and HBP, found that out a lil over a year ago, and mainly want it for the diabetes.... Im not good about eating super healthy to keep it (BS) down really low... Cant lie as I am excited about the weight losss as well... In high school i lost 60 pounds from 230 to 168 and was very happy, but injured myself skating and started thinking women were more important...lol...so over the last 15 years or so i made it up to 385~, delivering pizza for 6 years and eating it for 3 meals a day did not help... a lil over 3 years ago I quit and got a real job and over time lost about 50, to which im at now, around 340. I now work at home with my own biz and it is difficult to stay out of the cupboards at times.... While the kids were in school, i could ride my bike 8 miles a day but cant really do that now, now quite old enuf to leave at home for a hour... So since I'm 34 I really need to do this for my self and kids... We have BCBS il ppo... im hoping it will all work out. We went the Silver Cross last night for the seminar, so we got the ball rolling anyway... Thanx for having me.... Slim.

Hi Slim - Congratulations on taking the first steps to a healthier you.  Tell your wife I said to get her own account and join in on the board.  It's a wonderful way to get info, meet new people, get support and give support.  Everyone is at different stages of their journey. I too used to deliver pizzas.  I tell ya, grabbing breadsticks as your heading out the door for a run catches up with ya!  LOL My husband is now looking into having gastric bypass surgery.  He has his first  consultation on July 31st and is so excited he can hardly stand it.  He may not be able to have it because of some existing problems with his liver.  He is also a type 2 diabetic and also has hbp.  We shall see.

Wish you both the very best.  Don't be a stranger. Christina

Hi!  Welcome to you and your wife.  I live in Dwight, just down the road from you.  I was going to Silver Cross too for lap band, but my husband got hurt at work, so he is off for awhile and we lost our medical insurance.  We now have the public aid medical card and I decided that I want rny surgery, but cannot find a doctor that will take the card without a 1-2 year waiting period.  I'm still trying though.  It can be a hard and frustrating process, but don't give up like everybody says.  Good Luck!

Welcome to both of you!!! I have BCBS PPO and I did not find them so much difficult to deal with as STRICT as all get-out.  Make SURE you have all your "ducks in a row". Get the exact wording of their requirements and go down the list marking them off one-by-one.  Once you have everything, they may deny the first time, but you will have to point out something that they missed and they should approve. The hardest requirement to fill if the 6 month supervised diet (when I started it was 1 year.....). You must go (or have been) to the doctor once a month, every month (no more than 30 days apart, no less than 25 days).  You must be weighed, and discuss your eating and excercise and have it DOCUMENTED at each visit.  I wound up making a form that I took with me each visit for inclusion into my file.  That way, I was SURE that it was properly documented.  I also used Phentermine during that time----talk about high blood pressure! They would not accept the fact that I had been fighting my wieght and had documentation from the same doctor over a 5 year period, nor the 10+ years of records showing my morbid obesity.  I HAD to have the 6 months, each and every month. Now that it is all over, it seems like it was not that bad, but it was sure frustrating at the time. I wish you all the luck and god speed!

Tell someone that you love them!
