Quitting Smoking and WLS
Hi:
I'm getting so much good information from this Board and I want to thank you all. I am presently a smoker and know that I will have to stop before any surgery is scheduled. Do any of you have experience with this? How do doctors react when they hear you are a smoker and plan to make a commitment to WLS. By the way, I have my first appointment with a surgeon next week. Thanks.
I actually had two surgeons and one of them kind of was indifferent. I quit about a year ago before I even started my 6 month diet. Now I am about the file my appeal with a lawyer and I have still been smoke free. My feeling is that if you are going to make a commitment to become healthy that includes stopping smoking. I think that if you quit no surgeon is going to outrigth deny you unless you have underlaying health problems related to the smoking which would make the surgery difficult. Who is your surgeon btw? I am seeing Dr. Brian Lahmann at Silver Cross. Really nice guy. Good Luck!
