Hi Everyone, Thanks for all the good wishes, it really helped as I thought I was having a heart attack.... Thursday around 6:00 PM I laid down on the bed after a very long day cleaning up after our basement flooded.  I lost a lot of sentimental items and it was an emotional day to say the least. I felt a pressure on my chest and thought I just pulled a muscle.  Well it started to go down my arm and then my legs felt funny and I couldn't breath..  I don't remember much after that but just remember thinking so this is what it's like to have a heart attack.  So much for working out and being healthy My DH called the ambulance and they took me to the ER.  To make a long story short they couldn't find anything wrong with my heart.  As a matter of fact when I did my stress test they couldn't get my heart rate up enough to test as I was in such great shape.  So working out does help.  My heart was rockin...so what the he$$ was the matter.  Well my blood work came back and your liver enzymes are suppose to be 5-45 and mine was over 800.  Something was frying my liver.  I don't smoke, drink or eat bad foods.  I don't take tylenol or any other drugs that would damage the liver. Some think it may be the pre-natal vitamins I take.  They were clueless at the hospital.  I am thinking it may be the large amount of artificial sweetners I eat.  And I take in a lot!!! Have any of you had issues with your liver years after your surgery?  I will be 3 years next month.  Any thoughts, suggestions and or ideas is most welcome.  I need to get this mystery solved ASAP... Thanks for any help you can give me!! Take care, Kathy

Hey Kathy, one question. Do you take a lot of B-complex, as opposed to some B-12? I've heard rumors that this can affect your liver. The only liver issues I've normally heard about RNY is mild liver failure years, and I mean years later. I have real concerns that a lot of artificial sweeteners are not good for anyone, just IMHO. I sincerely wish you good luck on this! Doug

Hi Doug, Here is what I take on a daily basis: Vitamin C - 500mg Iron - 800 mg Biotin - 5000 mcg Prenatal Zinc - 50 mg Lutein - 20 mg B-12 - 500 mcg B1 - 250 mg Oh and stool softeners to counter act all the iron LOL So since I don't do the B complex you don't think that is an issue?  Thanks for all your advice... Take care, Kathy

Kathy, I'm not a Dr. of course, but what you and I take are almost indentical. No, I had heard the opposite about large amountsof B-complex, is that it can affect you liver. I wish I could help!

Hey LIsa, I wasn't aware either until my trip to the hospital.  I didn't have a clue, but I guess I should be grateful.  Hopefully I can find out what is causing this.. Take care, Kathy

Man, when it rains it pours (pun intended) for you. I do not think it is the B-complex. That is what my bariatric doc's office has us on as does my husband's bariatric doc. We both are 4 yrs out and our labs are pretty good. I do not think that I have ever heard of the term "fry your liver". You will get to the bottom of it. You are a smart cookie and I know you will not let grass grow under your feet until you find out what this is. Thanks for letting all know, here and on the main board. Christine

Hi Christine, Thanks for the good wishes and I will be sure and let everyone know what the issue is.  We all need to keep each other in the loop as I think we are learning right along with the docs!!! Take care, Kathy

Hi Kathy. Just wanted to stop by to tell you that prayers are coming your way. I don't have an answer as to why your liver enzymes would be high even though I am a nurse. I haven't heard that RNY patients have liver issues post-op. Actually my liver enzymes improved greatly after RNY surgery. I hope you get some answers soon and feel better. Hugs, Lucy
