i'm scared!!!
hi everyone, ok i am trying to decide whether or not to have dr heydari in woodstock, il, do my surgury. my best friend lost her husband a couple years ago to rny by a different dr in my area. he leaked right after surgury, got an infection, went into a coma and died. he never left the hospital.
does any one know how experienced dr heydari is? has any one every had a bad experience with him? what has everyone's experience been with him?
also i don't know which surgury to get... two of my friends are gainning thier weight back! one had the Rny and the other the lap band....
does everyone gain thier weight back or what?
First take a deep breath, exhale. The better majority of doctors have had a fatality. Whether it be from inexperience, poor candidate, or an individual that did not tell the truth about their medical history and there was an unforeseen complication that the doctor dealt with to the best of their ability. Just keep in mind that it is very hard to handle a MO patient after a surgery, you may not know all of the reasons why he died. Things can go south for the MOST experienced doctor. There is a mortality rate with this surgery. It is very dangerous to have ANY surgery when you are MO. That being said any doctor that is worth their weight will tell you what their patient death number(s) has been.
Now, I feel that you really need to find a doctor that is experienced in WLS not just the doctor you mentioned or a doctor that is close to where you live. What is more important - not having your family or yourself be able to drive to a doctor close by or one that is renowed in your area for WLS? Pick the best doctor possible for your situation, not if s/he is close by.
You will need to educate yourself as to what life style you want to live PO. Do you want the maintanence of having fills with the band or the possiblity of dumping with RNY? Also, you will need to make the decision as to what the doctor recommends for what you are. What kinds of foods do you like to eat (sugar & fat go with RNY) or are not one of those eaters and will accept not loosing as fast as RNY with the band? The doctor will help you with that decision, PLUS learn everything you can about surgery. Do not let others or a doctor sway you. You are the customer here, choose what is best for you.
