A friend of mine has a daughter who is 11 and weighs 300lbs. Her doctor recommends the lapband but doesn't know who would be willing to do it. She has many co-morbid conditions.

I had this discussion with my surgeon during some casual chatting and he told me that the minimum age is 13.  Also the pre surgery time is longer due to the fact that they require a year of support group and thearapy to teach not just the teenager but their parents and family about healthy eating and lifestyle.  This makes alot of sense in my opinion because someone that age is still dependent on their parents when it comes to being fed as well as learning their eating habbits.  You may want to contact Dr. Rosen's office and find out if they are able to start the program before 13.  In that case they my be able to schedule the surgery very close to the 13th birthday.  I dont know if there is an age difference between the band and RNY.  Our conversation was in general so you really need to contact his office to get all of the facts.  Hope this helps. Dan
