BC/BS of IL question
I called bc/bs of IL and told them I was calling to check on my claim status .. he took all my infomation and told me that he can't give me any infomation that someone would call me tomorrow ... all my paper work was faxed to them on the 26th.
Is this how they do stuff?.. I've never called an INS company before.
Hi Kelly,
I was an investigator for Blue Cross prior to working for Edward Hospital. I have two questions. Were you told that the fax was received by Blue Cross on the 26th from Blue Cross or from your surgeon's office? Blue Cross has a fax log and all info on faxes must be documented in their system. Blue Cross will not give out info to the member (you) based on benefit determinations over the phone. What they will tell you is if the request for predetermination is at the point of review. It is not a claim, because the service has not yet been rendered. The entire file has to go to imaging to be imaged. This is like taking a picture of your documents for examiners to refer back to. Usually it take 3 to 5 days after it has been faxed to get to an examiner in the medical review unit to review it. Then it will take usually one day to determine if the criteria has been met, but this depends on the fact that all necessary documents are there to make that decision. Sometimes additional info may be needed. In that case Blue Cross will request the info and send out a letter to you that the determination is being considered. If everything is good to go you will be sent a letter of approval at the same time that your surgeon's office recieves it.
I feel a little disturbed that you are still waiting for a response. My surgeon's office told me that Blue Cross has been taking about one week to come back with predeterminations. You can always call and ask questions about your file and if you feel that you are not getting the answers you are entitled to ask to speak to a supervisor.
I hope that helps.
