Good morning everyone, well I have a problem,  I have bad knees and the other day my right knee has been popping and hurting like the   I have to walk with a cane  I am going to the Ortho Dr. on Tues, for this. The problem is my surgery for my RNY is going to be coming up soon they are talking maybe the 5th of Nov,  Will know for sure on Monday, Anyway I dont know what to do with this Knee, pain and not being able to walk, what do you think I should do, not have the RNY that soon and give my knee time to heal, Which i a going to bet needs surgery , (Had the same thing on the other knee about  2 yrs ago, ) Or just have the RNY surgery and worry about the knee later, what do you all think?

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

Janet, I would ask the surgeon about it. I had my left leg in a cast ( on wed) and there was no problem with the lapband. . Good luck with your decision. Lisa

Well, you should be very frank with both docs as to what is going on with your knee because you really need your balance when you are just out of RNY surgery. This is only something both docs can address for you. Maybe with some rest you can get through your upcoming surgery without having the knee surgery first. Frankly, I think the ortho doc might not do any surgery on you at this point being pre op WLS, but I am not a clinician. Chris

thanks Chris, I don't know what she is going to want to do, I do know that when I had my other Knee fixed she said that my knees both needed to be replaced, she said that she would not do it for another 5 yrs said I was too young, I think what is really was saiding is I am too fat for knee replacement, which I know , anyway I will see what she has to say Tues.

Ouch!  Sorry about your knee Janet.  I also would discuss with both of your doctors. For one thing, losing weight can only help as it will take pressure off the knees.  I used to have terrible knee pain and now I have NONE.  I used to tak Celebrex and 6 Alleve a day and now I take NOTHING. Also before surgery I could bearly walk.  I needed a walked to go anywhere and I hardly went anywhere cause it was just too hard for me. The only problem is after the RNY you can take NSAIDS, things like Advil, Motrim, Aspirn.  So please talk to your doctor's about what's best for you. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Regards and hugs,

Ronna

Ronna, do you mean you cannot take NSAIDs, not can? Most docs say no to them.

Janet my friend had rny surgery 3 years ago, 6 months into her post-op she had to have knee surgery,  she told me that she felt ripped off because she didn't loose as much as she thought she should due to the lack of exercise.....she only loss 100 pounds when she needed to loose a 150   she said she got "married" (RNY)  and had no honeymoon!  Find out what the problem is by your doctors then decide.......but if you don't need knee surgery....loosing weight is only going to help that knee!
