OT: Update on Austyn

Well we took Austyn to the Ped Neurologist on Friday and he was officially diagnosed with tic disorder.  Not only is it the head thing, but he also sniffs, scrunches his eyes and does this grimace thing with his mouth.  Right now there will be no meds, but rather gentle reminders when we see him doing it.  There is a 2 out of 3 chance that he can outgrow this, but it is something that is in his genes and he can pass it to his own kids too.  Thank God it wasn't something more serious.  They did these tests to see if he possible had a tumor or something, scares the heck out of ya!

So happy to hear that there is a solution that does not involve drugs at this point. He is too young to be on some sort of a medication for years and years or possibly for the rest of his life. I am happy that the doctor choose a more natural approach to the situation first and if that does not work then you can move onto some other form of therapy. Chris

I am glad it wasn't more.  We are going through this with my nephew Gavin now, so far the reminders are working, but he is only 4.

Monica, Glad that it was not more serious,

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

Dear Monica:

I have been anxiously awaiting the results along with you.  I am glad that it is not something else.

You know that I am here for you if you have any questions or want to talk.  It is funny how things change over the years because when David was first diagnosed, they said to try to ignore it as bringing his attention to it could cause more stress, which would cause it to be worse. Hopefully, he will grow out of it. Sending love to you!

thank you Dawn.  I am sure that I will have questions and want to talk about things.  Right now the hardest part is not letting the older two get on Austyn's case about the sniffing.  It is annoying, but we have to remember that he can't help it.

You are doing fine. Gently remind the older ones that he can't help it,  and before long, you will all be so used to it, you will hardly notice.

Have a great day!
