Raging Hormones

I think that the title says it all and I am having a pity party for one.  I have become frustrated, as I made a mistake yesterday and stepped on the scale.  I have not lost any more weight other than the 10lbs the week following surgery.  My rational mind says that is an average of 5lbs per week, but the other side of me is going I could have lost that at weigh****chers.  The rational side of me says that maybe I got the stall that everyone seems to get during week three on my week two, but the other side is going this too has failed.  I have this fear of going to my appt next week at Dr. Kane's office and him getting upset that I have only lost 10lbs.   I just needed to whine and vent.  Ok, I think I am going to bed now

Hi, Wendi.  I haven't had surgery yet, so I'm probably no help, but if you have been following the "rules", I'm sure it's just a stall.  Have you been eating enough?  I don't think your doctor will be upset.  He may have some good advice though.  Best of luck to you.  Kathy

Wendi, You are me a year ago.  I looked at these boards and would cry at the posts of folks stating how much they lost and I had my own pity party.  Prior to surgery, I had the metabolism of a snail on its last leg, post surgery, I still have a slooooooooow one.  I went to a support group once and met a woman who had surgery the same day as me, at the same hospital, different doctor who had lost 100 lbs to my 40.  I felt like a to tal loser.   After being over a year out, I am still a very slow loser.  Yes, it frustrates me, but in my heart, I know that the loss I have so far could not have been obtained any other way.  Part of my wandering mind even wondered if they faked my surgery.  See, I have yet to feel really full nor have I felt hunger.  I didn't feel hunger prior to surgery either.  Pre surgery, I could go all day and not eat anything and not feel hungry( How did I get to be morbid obese, lol) When I asked my doctor, he told me that I was going to be a slow loser as some people are.  Both Dawn and I have the same "gift".  Hang in there, we know how you feel. Yep!!!!  Mary said it best!!!! It's funny how she said that sometimes she wonders if they didn't "fake" the surgery!  I feel the same way. The hormones ARE a ragin' and it certainly does not help.  Some of us are just destined to be "slow losers", but TRY to listen to the rational side and remember that 10 pounds in a week is a great start.   It is also true that right about now, your body is waking up and discovering that something drastic was done to it and it is in a bit of shock.  The losing will begin again, whether it is fast or slow, it will still be losing. I hope today looks a bit brighter!

Tell someone that you love them!

Hi Wendi - I had surgery on November 8th and remember feeling the same way. I still seem to have a few good weeks, then a few weeks at a stall. I have lost a total of 47 pounds, but there has been weeks where I've not lost, or only a lb or 2. Just stick with it. I have noticed if I eat more often, I lose more weight. I still weigh every morning and it drives me crazy!! :) Mendy

Wendi, (((HUGS))) that is why I do not own a scale! I already know I would drive myself crazy if I did... I weigh in once a week on the same scale... I don't even know what "rate" I am losing at I just know that I was SMO I have lost 65 Pounds in 13 weeks (100 days to be exact) I have had some stalls too and the 1st stall I was crying my eyes out but then the weight loss caught up with me... Keep up the great work! It will come off!!! Jenn

Wendy,

My heart goes out to you.  I truely believe that what the others said is true.  I'm sure that you believe it as well, and yet you still feel like crap.

I am sure that Dr. Kane is going to be 100% supportive and very proud of your weight loss whatever that will be.

Lets meet up at the mall, get some walking in, and have something pureed together. ~Michelle
