Freaking out over protein!
Hey everybody! Went for my meeting with the dietician and learned all about after the surgery. She told me I need to take in 70gm of protein daily. I don't know how to get all the protein in. Cudos to you folks that can get all your protein in and drink 64oz + a day. You are my heros. I have celiac disease (no wheat gluten), so trying to find a protein mix that I can take. I looked into Benprotein, and it's gluten free, but only gives 6gr of protein per serving. Anyone tried that brand and have any comments to share with me? I was thinking about doing soy, but I guess somewhere in the process it breaks down into something I can't have. Also, she said that the amount of protein would go down based on my weight. How soon does that number go down so it doesn't break the piggy bank buying the suppliments? I understand everything is at a cost, and trust me, I am looking at things from every angle and perspective.
I guess what I am trying to say is that I was hoping to find a suppliment that would give me at least 20+ grams per serving, that way if I can't get all my water in, I would at least be able to get all my daily protein in.
Also, any suggestions on brands and the cheapest places to find the calcium, iron, and B12?
Thanks,
Allison
Have you considered a ready mix protein drink. I regularly drink EAS Advance Carb control shakes. They have 17g of protein and 110 calories. Sam's club only sells the chocolate by the case. You can get them at GNC and also Osco in the 4 paks and in other flavors. At least you only have to buy 4 to try them. You can also get a powder in a multi pak box by this same company. It is called Myoplex Lite and it has 180 calories (mixed with water, skim milk will add more calories) with 25g of protein. I bought these at The Vitamin Shoppe. They have stores in the Chgo area and a great web site also. Now, I looked at the ingredients and do not see any gluten in them. The premix does have cottonseed fiber. I am familiar with gluten intolerence as I have microscopic colitis (MC) and I stayed away from gluten and was able to stop taking meds for the MC. Many people that have MC have a gluten intolerence also, some minor and some major. Mine was minor but enough to send me running for the potty at a moments notice.
I have used Beneprotein when I mix a hot cereal. It does add a little to the taste, tho not bad tasting. You just know it is there. I have also had All The Whey flavorless and it is ok also.
Good luck.
