Rejected
Hi Allison!
Sorry to hear about your rejection. I was told that rejection is standard practice with most insurance companies. Their logic is that companies change insurance frequently and if they just keep rejecting you, your company will switch carriers before they finally have to pay. In my case, my company chose a policy that excludes any biariatric surgery for any reason. So it wasn't a matter of being rejected, just a case of no covereage for any type of WLS. My local surgeon offered a self-pay deal, and when I did a little research, I found that there are surgeons and hospitals in Mexico that are very good and extremely affordable. I'm scheduled for May 3rd. I've met several people who have gone this route, and there have been no problems reported. I know that the local deal would have been out patient surgery, but the hospital will keep me for 2 nights. I feel better about that. They will even provide a pull out bed for my wife. I'm not encouraging people to go to Mexico if they can get their surgery in the US, but for those of us who have no other options, it is worth investigating. I would try everything that others have written in terms of appeals, but if that doesn't pan out, let me know and I will share the details of my search with you.
Good luck,
Paul
Barry,
You are too funny, and trust me, I did do that and ended up with a painful hernia from gorging myself LOL! I was going to wear ankle weights to my initial consult but opted not to because of insurance fraud. Since my consult, I have lost 10 pounds, so I am really screwed now. Plus I have been sticking to my celiac diet religously.

Allison......Just giving you my support too! Ankle weights? You right it would be fraud......but weighing in with your heavey winter appearal along with lots of pocket change? ya never know! You'll get approve if you just keep on them, but they have their own guidelines that they have to stick to also. I'm sure 40 bmi is the lowest they can approve. You'll figure something out......and we are all here to help you in any way.
