Today was my pre-op testing
Good afternoon. I spent a good 3 hours of my day at Alexian Brothers.
I was not a happy camper for two reasons: 1) Pre-admission testing did not have my gallbladder down for surgery, only the lapband; 2) They changed my surgery time from 7:30 am to 9:30 am. I couldn't help crying this morning. It always seems like there's something with a glitch. The interview nurse told me to contact Dr. Guske's office about the gallbladder. Since I was crying, she asked me if I still wanted to go through the surgery. I said yes, as I wasn't crying about having the lap band, I was crying because ABMC didn't have all the surgeries listed!!
Then I had a lot of blood taken as well as an EKG, and was told to go to outpatient department for my xrays, Well, I was directed incorrectly. My Ultrasound had to be done in ultrasound... So I got the directions to get there.. Ultrasound went fine and then I was told to go back to xray. Well I got to the outpatient xray department and it was the wrong one. I had to get redirected to the regular xray department... OK, then I had my chest xray and then time for the upper GI. Mind you I had to tell them that I already had a gastric bypass, so they had me drink something that was not as thick as barium. All I can say about that drink is
. I was moved up, down and had to lie down on my sides and stomach, and I got so sick. I had to ask for a basin and landed up throwing up some of the contrast
. I even got some up my nose! No joking here. I also got dizzy from all the movement and lack of fluids and food.
I bought some crackers in their cafeteria on the way out. I was so nauseated and had to get back to work.
When I got in, first I called the company that handles LOA's to see if they got the faxed paperwork from Dr. Guske. They did, so that was great as it was due tomorrow. Then I called Guske's office and had to leave a message with surgery scheduling and asked to be called back. Then I thought, I'll call Bessie to see if she could help. Left her a message as well. Both of them called me and straightened up the mess.
Now I'm at work thinking about getting my house in order for the painter as well as packing for my trip on Sunday. I can't wait to be under anesthesia, 2 WEEKS FROM TODAY!!!
Now all this venting felt good! I hope that all my surgical ducks are in a row. I did everything I am supposed to!!
It's back to work for me. I have a meeting in 15 minutes.
Take care!
Lucy Oh Lucy!!!
So sorry to hear of your trials and tribulations today. Isn't it crazy how they can screw up so many things? This means that you have had your quota of mix-ups and everything should be smooth sailing from here on out!
I want to wish you a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" a bit early! Liv's birthday is the day before yours, and your surgery is on David's birthday! What a coincidence!
Hang in there, only two more days.........
Hi Dawn. I sure hope that this is it. I'm so emotionally exhausted. Thanks for the birthday wish. Tomorrow's my last day at work and I have to finish up my house for the painter. My wallpaper for my bathroom came in and we picked it up today.
Once I'm on my trip, things should get better.
Thanks.
Lucy
Revision on 04/19/13
Hi Lucy, now that you have had all the pre-admit done, and you got all the mess cleared up, please go and enjoy yourself on vacation. Just remember to take the sun screen with you.
Happy Birthday a few days early. Have a blast.
Hugs
What a day you've had Miss Thing
There is something wrong with AB though. When I have my lumpectomty in November '06 they screwed up really bad. Had me come in at 7 a.m. even though surgery wasn't until 1:00. Said I had to go to Radio Isotop. When I asked what that was all about, the nurse came out and says to me, "You know you have cancer, don't you?" Well hell no, I didn't know this.
Anyway she looks into this and finds out no I don't and didn't need to be there, but someone screwed up.
So I had to wait all day, no eating or drinking waiting for my surgery. Then Guskey is late and my 1:00 becomes 3:00.
Yep AB is not the greatest place to have to be. Much prefer St, Alexius.
Hope things go smoother for you from here on in.

Hi Ronna. I was thinking about going to St. Alexius but I didn't want to run into an anesthesiologist that I worked with. He is a good guy but I didn't want him to know that I was having this done. My luck he would have been my anesthesiologist. He's a great anesthesiologist, but I didn't want him to know.
When I had my surgeries with Dr. Madry, I never got bumped on the schedule at ABMC. Only with Dr. Guske.
I think what you went through was totally inappropriate.
I sure hope I don't get a call just before 7 the night before, telling me that I was moved to a later surgery time.
I'm so pooped from all the hoopla yesterday and house cleaning! Today I have to take my winter clothes boxes to my Mom's, go to the post office and stop the mail, mail a package, get my hair cut and colored, do my nails both finger and toes, shave my legs, etc... and then clean up the master bathroom. I still have some packing to do.
Saturday I'm going to weigh****chers, getting a spray tan, going to the bank for some cash, and then to my sister's for the afternoon.
Then it's time for fun and relaxation. I am so ready!!!
Thanks for your message Ronna.
Hugs,
Lucy
Hi Ronna. I'm packed and ready to go. Drinking an AchievOne so I have some protein in my system.
I'm ready for a lot of R&R. I got a spray tan yesterday and it looks good. I'm taking my computer with me as they have free wi-fi at the resort I am staying at. So I can check in later tonight!
Hope you are doing well.
Hugs,
Lucy

Hope you have a great vacation!
