I am having a problem

with wanting  to drink Alcohol  and I know that is what is keeping me from losing weight, You see I used to drink alot in my younger years but in the past 10 years or so I have not drank much at all until last month now I love the feeling I get when I drink just one drink, I was only drinking on the weekend now my weekend starts on Thur. I am afraid that I am going to start drinking everyday and I sure don't want that,  I am afraid that now that I am getting thinner I am wanting to  catch up on everything I have missed being so M. O.  for so long,  Has anyone else gone throught this? Please don't flame me, I know what I am doing is wrong, I just need to have support now ,  I hope that someone can help me  understand what I am going throught,  My body has gone throught so many changes in just a very short time, my brain just can't catch up . another thing I feel like I am eatting to much, my HD said that I don't eat that much but I feel full and even stuffed , I don't know maybe I need to go see my head Dr. and talk with her, maybe she can help. I don't know, Well I am just going to post this and hope that you all understand and don't flame me, I do look to you all  for support and think of you all as my family, Thanks for letting me vent.

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

Janet, it is normal for us to want to "use" something to deal with life. That is what addictive behavior is all about. What you have to focus on is developing some self-soothing behaviors that don't have a negative payoff. We used food to deal with life. It's normal to then try alcohol or spending or something else. So much of recovery is learning new coping techniques. People do things like journaling, hobbies, talking to friends, exercise, massages, knitting, scrapbooking. You'll have to see what works for you. Alcohol is a dangerous luxury for us. I certainly am willing to talk to  you more about this.

Take care,

Connie

No flames on this board Sweetie. Sorry your having such a struggle. But good for you for recognizing it and asking for help. Does your employer have an EAP (Employee Assistance Program)?  If so they have resources that can help you.  I agree you need someone to talk to who will not be judgemental but will help with your issues. If no EAP call your Surgeon's office for a referral. You are half way home just by asking for help. We are here for you!!!
Regards and hugs,

Ronna
