Surgery Tuesday.....Couple Questions!?!?!?!
Hello everyone
I am having my RNY surgery on Tuesday and wondered if there was anything anyone suggests that I do before or after that you learned around your surgery time.
I am getting a little nervous but excited at the same time!
Did you all have to do the protein drinks before and after, and if so what kind did you do that has worked well?
How do you get the ticker on the bottom of your info on here?
Thanks for your advice and responses!

You should have all of your liquids or whatever foods your doctor recommends for PO before you go in for surgery so all you need to do is concentrate on healing after you get home.
You might want to take your own pillow, bring chapstick, toiletries, robe, slippers, reading material if you feel inclined, cell phone and charger if allowed, list of other numbers not in your phone book, small amount of cash if you want to buy a newspaper, some bring their own laptop to connect to the hospital's WIFI, charger for same, reading glasses or other types of items to see correctly. . . there is more and I am sure someone else will share.

Hi
To Christine's list I would add ear plugs, an mp player, nail file, comfy clothes. If you dont have a sports bra, get one as a regular bra will rub your incisions and that hurts. Make sure your slippers are some that you can put on without bending over. Dont forget undies, toothbrush and paste. I always take a list of my medications and doseages as well. Lotion is also a plus.
For home, I went to Walmart and got some 1 1/2 oz size metal cups to make jello in. These were a serving size so I could just pull out a serving and be set to go with no measuring. Also got a bunc of 2 ox serving containers (disposable ziplock type but reused them.) I used a stick blender quite a bit to do things such as blend cottage chees for the puree stage. Also a blender or magic bullet for protein shakes. Small spoons such as baby spoons and ****tail forks to help you tak small bites. I also bought some inexpensive, fun patterned ****tail type serving plates at Target to help me keep portion sizes small.
Have on hand, sugar free jello, popcicles, herbal tea, tylenol, a variety of protein drink samples, crystal light or K2O mixes, carnation instant breakfast, broths, bandages for your incisions, antibiotic cream, a good reference book is also helpful.
I found a recliner best for sleeping the first week home. It really pulled on everything to lay flat. Some people are ok in their beds but I wasn't.
Good Luck and Fasten your seatbelt for an awesome ride!

Hi Jen,
It's ok to be nervous. I agree with eveyone else in being prepared for coming home. Make sure you have all the fluids that you will need for your first week. The suger free popsicles are great especially with the sore throat after surgery. I drink the Zoic Protein Shake (vanilla) which does great for me. I know things might be a little different because I had lap band but basically the post op diet is the same. Good Luck and I have you in my prayers.
