Thiamin deficiency

Hi and Good Morning All!!

TGIF!!

I finally got my labs back from the surgeon's office.  Trust me, this was a feat in itself!!  Well, they called to let me know that I am deficient in Thiamin.  I would have thought that they would have told me what to take and how much.  Well, I have to wait for someone in their office to call me and let me know.  Um, not too confident that I will get call anytime soon--without me having to constantly give them a call.

Does anyone know what I need to take for this deficiency?  Is it vitamin B1 and if so, how much are you currently taking.

I appreciate your assistance.  I want to make sure that I get the Thiamin in and will adjust the dosage once I hear back from the surgeon's office-whenever that will be.

oh Joy, first let me tell you that I feel your pain with that office.  They make me crazy, just ask anyone here!  LOL  It has taken me up to 3 1/2 weeks to get some of my lab results from them, even when I have been deficient in something.
I am also low in B1 and I take 1  B1 every day.  My last B1 numbers came up pretty good, so it must be working.  I just bought mine at Wal Mart. 
Hope this helps and ya know what, next time you call, just tell them that you will NOT hang up until you talk to someone...it's amazing how fast they get you through then!  lol

Thank you very much!!  I will definitely get to Wal Mart today to get a bottle of B1.  I got my labs done and when I had my 3 month follow-up, they didn't  have them....so that is when my calls started.  What a joke!!  It is so frustrating!!

I will be giving them a call today and won't hang up until I speak with someone!!  Sounds like a plan to me...haven't tried that one yet.

Hi I also get my B1 at walmart, they are 250 mg and I cut in half , and take 1/2 every day, I was taking a whole one and Dr. said that my B1 was too high,,

Thank you very much!!  I appreciate your response.  I just got off the phone with the Kane Center...UM,,,there is only a nurse there on Wednesday's that can help with this situation.  Don't understand that and the fact that I was disconnected 3 times when trying to reach someone.

Sorry to vent...I am just a bit peeved!!!!

Joy, I have my handy dandy vitamin and mineral book in front of me to look up B1, AKA thiamine. There are no known doxic levels for it. So if you get a larger dose in it will not hurt you. It is also a water soluble vitamin and is not stored in the body in any great quantities. The book does say to have 0.5 milligram per day per 1,000 calories so you can go from there.

I appreciate your response!!!  I did buy a bottle yesterday and am glad to know that taking them now won't hurt me because you never know when I will be geting the 'mystery call back' from the surgeon's office.

Mine was also low and i have to go 4 weeks to the hospital and get a 100mg shot. Tuesday will be my last shot, then i also started taking B1 from walgreens 100mg pill. The drugest told me if it was to much it wouldn't hurt because we pee it out if not needed.  I think the pills smell bad..... But i will keep taking them instade of getting sick from deficiency.

Thank you so much for the info.   Still waiting for the nurse to call me back with the information as to what I should be taking and how much.  Go figure.  I have left so many phone messages, it is a joke.

I did go and buy a bottle of B1 vitamins and have started taking them daily.
