A few questions....

Everyone has been so great, and so informative.  I have been on the DS forum, and am SERIOUSLY leaning toward this surgery.  My question to you guys is....INSURANCE.

I have BC/BS of IL and am almost postive they view it as an experimental surgery.  So this means I'm gonna have a fight on my hands.  Anyone have experience with this?  I am going to the seminar at the Kane Center for more info on the RNY...but I really think the DS might be best for me.

Laura, You really need to call your Insurance carrier and ask them what the criteria is for your program. Then they can also tell you if they handle DS.

I actually did.  They do view it as an experimental procedure.  They approve the RNY and the Lapband after a 6 month supervised diet, and a BMI over 35 as well as a 5 year history of obesity.  Just wondering if anyone on this forum has had a DS with this particular insurance and/or problem.

 One of our members who goes by the username of Nicolle had the DS done.  I dont know who her insurance provider is.  Also Diana on the DS forum is noted for helping you get through insurance hurdles.  You might check with either of these ladies.
