Lapband to RNY or DS

Hi All,

I'm new this group...I just discovered it today.  I had lap band Nov 2006 and I lost 70 lbs.  Now I no longer feel restriction.  I gained back almost 50 pounds. My doctor has suggested that I get a revision to the full bypass.  I'm thinking about it, but I'm worried that it might not work or that I might fail.  My concern is that my insurance does not cover Silver Cross Hospital which is where my doctor is at, so I need to chanage doctors and hospitals.  I guess I'm worried about another doctor doing the revision since my doctor, Dr Joyce already knows me.  My insurance is telling me to try University of Chicago.

Ok I have 2 questions:
1.  Any feedback on UCM's program, doctors and staff for surgery?
2.  Which procedure to change to?

Thank you!

I am not a Dr., but I am going through the begining process of DS, at UCM.

From my research, he is a very good Dr.

Please make sure you call for an appointment...he is booked until next year I hear.

Hi, Jazzy. I am a big fan of the DS, having had it 17-18 months ago. I lost over 200 pounds, eating food I love. To say this was the best decision I ever made is an understatement.

I would encourage you to consider the long-term results of each surgery and the quality of post-op life. To me, they are vastly different. Only you know what you would consider success and what kind of lifestyle you can live with, and why you got heavy in the first place.

Please ask your DS-related questions on the DS forum. I am the only DSer who hangs out here on the Ilinois forum but there dozens of Illinois DSers on the DS forum. Lots of folks there have had revisions from other WLS to the DS and can tell you what that was like. You may also want to check out the revisions board here on OH too. Those folks can share their experiences with you, too.

One more source for you, a site created by a happy DSer who wanted to create a one-stop shop for info on the DS:

www.dsfacts.com

Best of luck to you!!

Hello Jazzy

Welcome to the group!

Why did your Dr suggest a revision? Because of the weight gain?

The Lap Band is effective if you have restriction. Do you have any saline in your band? Your previous weight loss is proof that the LB once worked for you....perhaps a fill should be scheduled in your future?

Please research each surgery. Both have pros and cons that may not appeal to you.

Good luck with your choice!
