RNY Surgery / Time off Work

Can anyone tell me how long they were off of work with Lap RNY? My surgery is Nov 23rd. I am hoping to be off Thanksgiving (of course) and Christmas.

I hear most Dr. allow 6-8 weeks. What is your experience?

Thanks!

I don't think you'll need six to eight weeks unless you just really want the time off or have complications.  I had open RNY and was back to work after 1 1/2 weeks.  I do have to say that is pretty quick and most take a few weeks off.  You will be tired and do need to take it easy.  You'll have some lifting restrictions for a short time.

Good Luck,

I was off 3 weeks and felt well enough to return to work. I would think 6-8 weeks is a bit excessive but it depends on how your doing. It is really up to you and your doctor.

I was off work for 10 days then went back for half days for a week.  I still needed naps, so the half days were for that.  Even after returning full time, I probably napped for the first week after I got home.
Each person is different, but most docs say 2 weeks with no complications.  It also depends on what type of job you do.  No heavy lifting for 6 weeks.

Tell someone that you love them!
