5 weeks Post Op and dont know what to eat? HELP? (XPost)
Hey Illinois.....Sorry I have not posted in a while, I am having some tummy issues and my fibromayalgia has been terrible! So anyway, I am 5 weeks out from surgery today. I have lost 26 pound :) I am on soft food, introducing hard food. The problem is Im not sure what to eat? They way I understood from my Surgeon is start inroducing hard foods, stay away from high calorie liquids and eat 700-900 calories per day. Also eat protien at every meal and try to get 60grms protein per day. Can anyone suggest and foods? Hope your all great!
Thanks :)
Laura
What to is eat is kind of subjective for each person. What one person likes maybe another does not but here are a few suggestions:
cottage cheese
string cheese
chunk cheeses
scrambled eggs
tuna salad made with low fat mayo
chicken salad made with low fat mayo
chili like the other poster mentioned
imitation crab meat or the real thing from a can
canned salmon meat or fresh
watch out for ground beef as some people cannot tolerate it especially if too dry
very moist baked chicken (if you are cleared to have it) be careful to chew well
smashed black beans with a little tiny bit of salsa and if given okay then a couple of high grain crackers
refried beans and ricotta cheese, some heat it up but I am not sure exactly what to do with it
Later on today if I remember more food ideas I wil post from home.
edited to add - baked fish of any kind that you like
shrimp (chewed very well) watch out for any shells or fragments of shells
edited to add from home:
if you like veggies and the doc said okay then I would add like peas, carrots, green beans, refried beans, black beans. Stay away from anything with seeds so they not catch in the incision lines of the reconnected pouch. You will be able to introduce nuts and seeds later on down the line.
Over on the main forum you will see reference to Melting Mama. She has recipes and a web site http://www.meltingmama.net/ and http://www.meltingmama.net/wls/recipes_/ you might be able to glean some info from both of these links.
Love ya,

You must be so thrilled, 25 lbs down, can you believe it.
I still eat a lot of soft food, I like sauted talapia, yogurt, oatmeal. A typical day for me is a protien drink before the gym, 3 Tab oatmeal and 4 tablespoons yogart, a protien shake at my first snack, 3 tablespoons low fat tuna salad, a few whole wheat crackers, almonds and dried cherries more yogurt sometimes more oatmeal, chicken or fish for dinner, or 1/2 a boca burger, 3 bean salad stuff like that , then 3 tablespoons yogurt and raisin bran. But you will need to really take it slow at first, I did a lot of protien drink, soup and stuff like that at first. You'll get there. Great job so far.
