I was covered by my company's short term disability when I had my WLS.  It covered me after 3 days.  Every employer is different so check with yours.  Good luck

Hi, folks...

Made some progress today. Make some major missteps today, too.

First off, I've got my meeting with the surgeon on Wednesday. I'm wondering if I'm going to remember everything I want to ask/know. I'm hoping I'll get a greenlight and be sked for a June RNY. --- Is there anything you wished you would have asked at your first meeting with your surgeon?

Hit OA this morning. Great. I need the program. In spades.

Struggled with my family over food. Child refused my homemade high-fiber pancakes and Gimme Lean soy sausage this morning, eating pasta, spaghetti and meatballs (leftovers from eating out last night --- where the missteps started is hard to say, as they stretch out behind me for, like, years) instead. Husband refused to make her lunch at home while I was at OA, then when I got home, they took off for the library, hitting a Chinese joint for sweet-and-sour chicken and shrimp fried rice along the way. Then, they come back and bring the leftovers into the house --- while I'm standing in the kitchen trying to purge the "bad foods" from the pantry. And, I ate some leftovers. --- I think I have my undeniable answer: I am on my WLS-journey ALONE when at home. Sigh. Compulsive overeating is a bear. Living with folks that are in active "addiction" and who aren't also attempting to become healthier is very, very difficult when you're trying to go straight.

But, I have been losing weight. On the doc's scale, I was 303 this month, down from 324 in January. My home scale claims 297, which breaks the "300-mark", but until the doc's scale also dips under 300, I feel I can't take the victory lap.

Basically, am still taste-testing different protein drinks and setting up my kitchen for my new (expected) lifestyle. The hard work now is trying to push my daily calories down to 1,500 and trying to resist the "bad food" surrounding me at home.

It's good to see how you all are faring on the "other side" of surgery. I hope to get there in June and to have things under control soon.

P.S. Saw Osco had various protein bars on sale for 99 cents. Is that a good deal? If you have the Jewel-Osco flyer (4-day sale), do you think any of the brands are good (low-sugar, high-protein, etc.)?
