Saturday Roll Call

Hello everyone

Well I'm happy to report I broke through a major plateau!!!  I lost 3 pounds!!!  I haven't lost anything for a  month.  I knew If I just kept up with my regular routine I would eventually start losing again.

I have no big plans this weekend.  I know it's Mother's day but my Amanda is studying for finals and has to write papers.  I will see her next weekend and she will do something for me then. Which by the way I get to see her in 7 days!!!

I have some errands to run and some chores to do.

QUESTION= all of you green thumbs out there.  I hear we are going to get a frost tonight.  What do I do to protect my plants.  Do I just cover them with a grocery bag?

Everyone have a spectacular day!!!

Green print in honor of your green thumb question - if you have any old bath towels that will work or an old sheet that will work also. What I used for tenting my peas was a heavier paint drop sheet of plastic. Just as long as the frost does not come in contact with the tender plant. The grocery bag should work. Make sure that it is weighted down so it does not blow away with this wind.

I finally got some rest last night as I went to bed at 730 and slept for 11 hours, very unusual for me. The only reason I got up was because my belly was about to burst otherwise I would have rolled back over.

We are having a "Green Day" here in Itasca with free shredding and E-waste removal. We can bring over all of our TVs, obsolete video stuff, computers, monitors, printers . . . and it will be hauled away.

We serve food at Willow this afternoon/evening. After that we will more than likely come home and eat left overs. Tomorrow I will putz around the yard a little while enjoying the sun we are supposed to get.

Crystal, good for you the #s are coming off again.  Just remember that "calories in = calories out" and you will continue to do well.

Good Morning,

I am up and at them this morning. I needed to clean out the pantry so after putting it off for 2 weeks, I decided today was the day. I have 3 sleves emptied,2 to go. Then I will tackle the rest of the kitchen.

Crystal, you can also cover your plants with newspapers. Just weigh it down so it stays on your plants.

I am going back to work on the pantry,
Stay safe and warm today.

Huggers,
Lisa

Congrats on the 3 pounds! Stalls stink.

Yes, my black thumb and I are stumped about the frost, too. I bought plants and did not put them in the ground yet, so I picture me grabbing them and dragging them into my house this afternoon.

Lots of running around today. Tee-ball, dentist, playdates with kids. I think we're going to veg and watch a movie and gobbel popcorn this afternoon.

Have a good day, everyone!

Nicole, If your plants have been outside and watered up until now they will be fine overnight outside but you need to cover them. They can handle the cold if they have been out there all along - it is called "hardening". It is actually better for them to get used to the cold before they are planted.

Chris

edited to add - that the same goes for introducing plants to the sun - it needs it gradually so they become acclimated to the sun and then the strong sun - that is if they are plants that can take partial to full sun,

Good Morning everyone,

Crystal, congrats on the weight loss again...I have been stalled at the same weight now for months and months.  I need to up my exercise when i find the time..ha ha ha.

Today we're running out to get some stain and varnish for a picnic table I bought yesterday and hopefully we'll get to get moving on putting it together soon...
Tonight my boys come home from their dad's so they'll be here for Mother's Day with me.  I will be doing homework most of the weekend...I only have 4 days of actual classroom time left!  Then I go out on my externship for 160 hours, then I graduate!  yay...
Then on May 19th I have an appt with a counselor at Waubonsee Community College to get started on the RN degree!  lol  Yep, I'm nuts, but it's been my dream to be an RN since I was a little girl.

I want it to get warm and stay warm now...I am tired of having to dig out sweatshirts to wear again! lol

I wish all the mom's out there a wonderful Mother's Day!  Love ya all!

 Good Afternoon Everyone!

It is chilly out  today.  I woke up and actually turned the furnace back on and pulled on a sweatshirt.  Brrr.  I too am thinking about the sheets I  need to cover my flowers tonight.  Mine are all on my deck so that offers some protection as they are higher off the ground.  This happens every time I don't listen to my knowledge of knowing not to buy my plants until the end of May.  Shame on me!

This has been a horrible week for me.  Lots of stress at work.  We have been very busy and then on Thursday they announced that they are closing our call center in Casper WY which means 250 people are losing jobs.    I am thankful that I work in "perfect Peru" but it unnerves me all the same.  This is the second center that has closed in a little over a year.  Office Max is doing well but with the economy, they say it makes better sense to reduce call centers.  We are adding jobs at our location so we are growing.  One thing I am discovering is that my 2 previous downsizings has caused some Post traumatic Stress disorder in me.  Whenever we have gone through these reductions, I start reliving my feelings from my previous job losses all over again.  UGH!

Then last night I had a run in with the census.  I hope all of you will come visit me in jail.    I filled out my short census form and sent it in and they acknowledge receiving it but are now saying there are discrepancies in my answers.    How can there be any ambiguity in there is 1 person living in my household and that I have not lived anywhere else in the past year???  After asking this question via phone multiple times and multiple ways last night and not stopping I finally asked for a supervisor and agreed with them that I was not answering any more questions.  They had the information that the short form required.  Stubborn me.  Asking me the same questions over and over again will not yield different answers other than a loss of my patience.

Enough ranting.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Nancy, we had issues with the census also. I sent the form back in and we still had a census taker come knocking on our door telling Dave that we did not send the form back in and I had sent it back in within the week after we received it. This country is in dept now why are we spending money for something like this when I already sent the form back in?

NOW - that more than likely was not a real census taker because they are NOT supposed  to call you but are supposed to come to your door. I hope that you did not give out any sensitive info to them like your date of birth . . . . . . . . . .

 Christina,

That is why I asked for a supervisor.  I was becoming leery of answering questions because of not knowing if this was really a census worker.  I did see the next day that my caller ID showed it was the US census.    But they cannot blame me for being suspicious.  There is no "proof" over the phone and I agree with you.  They spent more money following up on this simple form and dragging out questions????   Waste of tax payer $$$$$
