We have a Pioneer research farm north of Princeton.  It is my son's 4th year and he makes $9/hour.  Our daughter detassled last year so w/one year of corn field experience she makes $8.50 this year pollinating (she liked detassling better though).  The detasslers work in the early hours and rain but the pollinators don't have to be there until 8 am and quit when raining.  They usually have ads in the newspaper about a month or more before the season starts looking for detasslers.  Seems like the season lasts for about 3 weeks or so.

Thanks!  I will try to remember to keep an eye out next year.
I have a student that is de-tasseling this year, but I have not had a chance to ask her!

 Hi Jen!

Good to see you!  Thanks for posting!  I do not envy your kids at all!  That is hard work.  I think I would last all of a half or a day or less.  I did find out I am allergic to the molds in corn fields one year when I was in one.

A trip to Seattle sounds great!  That will be so much fun and a chance to show off the new you -- how exciting.  I hope you have a super time!  Thanks for stopping by!

Good morning Nancy and the rest of Illinois!

I have been really busy at work and home, so I missed yesterday and am just stopping by today.

I turned our air off last night and opened the house.  I felt GREAT to sleep with the fresh air.  OUr house is 2 story and very old, so the AC doesn't really get upstairs to the bedrooms as I'd like, so the windows are a much better option when I can open them.

With Todd at camp, I am running like a chicken with her head cut off.  Dual parenting is definitely easier!  Between the kids' 2 jobs (volunteer....) and evening activities, it is crazy!  Olivia has cheerleading tomorrow and Wednesday, so I will only have to get David to his job and that will help a bit.  The evening stuff is hectic too, with rehearsals, softball and family nights at camp.

Olivia will leave for Cheer Camp on Friday and David's bus leaves for O'Hare to go to Jamboree at 4 AM Saturday.  Todd will be home around 1 in the afternoon on Saturday which is also "A DAY IN ROCK CITY".  By then, I will be ready to relax, but I have to get the meats ready for the grill to be cooked that day.  Let me know if anyone is planning on coming out, I'll give you directions.

Christine, glad you are feeling better and be VERY thankful that this is your first sinus infection.  David's first diagnosed sinus infection turned into a nightmare!

So glad to see you all, but back to work for me.

Things sound really hectic!  I think you will be ready "to get rid of 2 kids" by the time the week is over.  You can then take a deep breath and enjoy!  It sounds like you are running yourself ragged.  Be sure not to overdo it!

Thanks for the get well wishes everyone. I still need Tylenol in me to keep the ache away in my jaw. I have one more pill in the Zpak left. I am getting a little better everyday but I think it is "camping out" in my right ear now. I more than likely will take part of Friday off to see my doctor as I might need something stronger to kick this in the butt and out of me. My doc is off on Thursday's and if I am not feeling better close to the end of the day I will call for a Fri apt.
