I am trying to find out if there is some sort of support group available for people who have had WLS and are also alcoholic.  This is becoming an epidemic!!  I attend regular AA meetings, but I feel as if I need some "extra" support.  I was not an alcoholic prior to having my surgery.  I am 8 years post-op, and have only been dealing with an alcohol problem for about 2 years.  I feel as though certain aspects of the AA program do not "work" for people that have had WLS and I have met MANY people who have become alcoholics AFTER having surgery.

I'm not sure if there is anything out there for us WLS'ers/Alcoholics, but if not I would be willing to start something!  If you or anyone you know is dealing with the same issue, please respond or send me a message so we can get in contact.  I live in the NW Burbs of Chicago.  Thanks!!

I would think it would be worth asking that question of the groups that meet at Willow Creek and maybe a call to the guy that leads the Kane Center wls support groups.

Hi Ginny-Dr. Crane holds the post op gastric bypass support meetings.  You may want to give him a call.  We have support meetings every 3rd Saturday of the month.  We have one coming up this Saturday in their office in Hoffman Estates, right off of the expressway.  I hope that you find a support group to attend.
