BC/BS of illinois PPO
My surgeon is sending in all the paperwork to bc/bc of illinois PPO, next week, I am calling his office tuesday, or should I wait til wednesday, to see if they faxed everything to the insurance co> BC/BS said they would know yes or no, in a week or so, they said they get the information from the surgeon and by courier send it directly to one of their surgeons who is equal to mine, and will notify me by mail approval or denial. I am getting a little worried, all went well with surgeon, and my PCP wrote a letter (copied off of Garys' site)/ and my doctor wrote he supervised me intermittedly for 2 years, on diet plans, to no avail, and this is what he feels is the next step for me. Also, when my caseworker at BC/Bs got the letter I faxed to her, (instead of waiting for my surgeon to get it to her i GOT IT TO HER). Along with the records from my PCP, on my weight loss appts. for the last two years, she was really happy sounding, in regards, to me keep questioning her as far as "did I do this right, and she said, "Your doctor wrote a very good letter, and he put 2 years supervised dieting," she sounded VERY confident for me, I still am afraid to get my hopes up. Oh, well just felt like talking, lol. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!! LIZ Is it too early to get my hopes up!!! Now, be honest!!! thanks all
Liz I am sure you know the big thing with BCBS is that supervised diet. So if your doctor wrote you have it and if it shows in your med records sounds like you might have a chance. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. and its never to early to call to verify everything was sent most Doctors office realize how impatient we all are to get this going..
Good luck keep us up to date!!

hi thanks for helping, I appreciate all the help this board is giving me, you guys are great support. I did call my surgeon to see if he got his letter of my exam and so on to the insurance company, and the woman at the surgeons office said the insurance called wanting it, and it has only been since last thursday, since my first surgeon appt. but I faxed in my PCPs' letter supporting the letter, and his weightloss attempts for the last intermittent two years to the insurance company on thursday morning. I am glad to hear the insurance company is up on things. The surgeons office said they will fax tomorrow or the next day to the insurance company. She also said it might be a month before I ge tinto surgery, I need a psychiatrist appt, the ultrasound, pre testing, I am getting the psychiatrist appt scheduled tomorrow, to get it out of the way. I have to be thin by march, to walk my daughter down the aisle at her wedding. HOPEFULLY!! thanks all
I am going to be switching to BCBS ppo in Jan. just in hopes to get the surgery. My problem is the supervised diet. I had my doctor put me on a diet, but last month. So if I have to have it documented for a year it will be at least next Nov. before I get to do anything. I am really curious to hear if they approve you. I sure hope so. Did your doctor really have you on a supervised diet or did he kind of help you out with that? I don't think my pcp would fudge anything like that for me. Do you know what type of documentation they require. I mean, do they expect you to go to the doctor every month or week to get weighed?? And what is a realistic expectation from them. If you do follow the exact diet, obviously you will loose weight, but as we all know, gain it back as soon as you stop. So what do they want??? I am so confused! Then, I'm afraid if I loose too much weight, then you won't qualify for the surgery. What's a person to do?????? Please keep us advised on your findings! And good luck. I am hoping for the best for you! Michelle
