Question about banquets?

Okay, please help. I do a lot of volunteer work for the Jaycees. We are at that time of year where there are lots of awards banquets and such and tickets include the price for a huge 4 course dinner. Most people know i have had wls, but i find it hard to pay $50 for a meal mostly that will get thrown out. Each event is run by a differnt group in the jaycees so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. For one that was family style i simply agreed not to eat cause they wouldnt check to see if i could just have soup or something. That's 1/4 that i have to deal with and it scared me a little. Why can't you ask for the left over food that you do not eat to be put in a take away container? You are paying for the meal, you should be able to enjoy it even if it is at a meal later on on a different day. And with the weather being what it is right now you could take the left overs out to your car right away and it would be in effect be in a refridgerator, LOL. Going to the banquets is no different than going to a restaurant. You are not going to be able to eat all the food at either place. You would ask for a doggy bag at a restaurant wouldn't you? I have asked for a doggy bag at a banquet, I paid for the food!
