Need suggestions
Andrea, I was still feeling about the same way that you are at 4 weeks out. I did not feel much like myself until 6-8 weeks. I did not do and still do not do B12. I am on a B complex tablet now but took liquid B complex until I was 6 months out. It is common not too feel yourself until you are 6-8 weeks out. This is how long it takes for your body to recover from major surgery. Is you doctor recommending B12 shots, is this what he prescribes? Give your body a chance to recover from the major surgery that you went through.
I decided to do shots (b12, not the fun kind) when no matter how much of that nastey tasting stuff I held under my tongue, even if I did it every single day, my B12 level still kept dropping. My doc told me that the lower level of the test is not always accurate- so if the test says that you are a little below normal, you may be really low. Because of this, he put me on the shots, and I was able to learn to give them to myself. I did 1 per week for 4 weeks, now I do 1 per month, and my levels are O.K. My insurance isn't cooperative (what a shocker!!) and won't pay for the needles, but will pay for the b12 goop. The needles are cheap- like $1 a piece, so it's not cost pro-hibitive. Just keep up with the labs--that's what I'd do first, in your place. After all, you just had a MAJOR operation a little less than 1 mth ago. It's hard to be patient, but I predict you'll get to feeling a little more peppy pretty soon. Seems to me I felt pretty crumby/run down at 4 weeks, but week 5 was better, and week 6 was awesome, and I went back to work. So, I know you're restless, but you must chill. All good things come in time!!
andrea I take b-12 500 sublingually.... I get them from walmart and they are like tiny cherry flavored, just stick them under your tongue till hey disolve.... they taste ok... and they are CHEAP!!! 4 bucks for 200 thats like 6 months worth!! Andrea,
I don't like getting shots.. so if I was in your shoes, I'd explore just about any option I could find to avoid getting a shot..
I wasn't a big fan of the sublingual b-12.. but I take the Vitamist B12 and my energy is thru the roof.. when I forget to take it, I notice a difference..
Are you taking your multi-vitamins? I talked to my surgeon about the iron and b-12s and he said the multi-vitamins should provide you with everything you need.. you should only need the additional supplements if you're not getting what you need from the multi... or if you're like me.. and you just like the energy boost..
