This Loser is Back Home

Surgery went just fine on Tuesday. I was up and walking within 2 hours of hitting my room. I went for 2 walks that day. On Wednesday, I went for 5 walks - totally circumnavigating the hospital floor each time. I felt just like Steve Forbes, or Magellian, or Sir Francis Drake (no pieces of eight found at any nurses station, drat!). Discovered the joys of Dilaudid. Now, I know why Elvis was hooked. I felt like a king, too. The IPOD sounded great under its gentle caress. They only gave Big D to me until I passed my leak test on day two. Still, it was one golden day of purple hazed bliss. Not that I'm an advocate of this kind of stuff -- but one must look for rainbows where they are available. Now, I'm home - a bit sore and sipping at my ice cold ISOPURE. Yummy. Hard to believe my insides have been redesigned. On a more disgusting note - anyone else poo green? In Chicago, they dye the river green on each St. Patricks Day. I wonder if one of the nurses was feeling frisky and slipped an odd dye packet in my IV. In any case - if this continues, I will feel obligated to go downtown next week and add to the festivities in my own unique way. Thanks to all of you for you shared advice and good wishes. My journey has just begun! Cheers-- Harbor

Nancy: Good luck with your journey. It takes a lot of courage to elect surgery when you aren't in an immediately demanding situation medically. That's the insideous thing about obesity - you can compromise yourself to death with it - no single event clearly going over the line. Seat belt extender - sure. Help with your socks - OK. No longer walking distances - well, hey, you're getting older. Good for you in trying to break out of this! I'll try to keep you informed how my journey progresses and if I learned anything that can help you. Harbor

Kathy: That makes a lot of sense. I hope it end soon - it's the only negative experiance I've had that's due to the surgery. Thanks for the encouragement! Harbor

Wow, you're doing great. I was still in the hospital at 2 days, and didn't feel like getting on the computer for a week. I don't remember green poo, but mustard yellow has been prominent. Glad everything went well! Terry

Terry: We live in a multicolored world. Mustard yellow or olive green - it's all the same sh*t isn't it? Seriously, I attribute my quick recovery to Dr. F - really, an incredible guy. Harbor

Congratulations Harbor! And welcome home, too! We're so very glad to have you back! I'm jealous of your brief but pleasureable encounter with purple hazed blissfulness Remind me not to head to Chicago for St. Pattys Day if you choose to add to the festivities in your suggested manner May you enjoy all of your days ahead even more now. Hugz, Cathy
