Hello all, I've been lurking around this board for the last year. I don't post too often but I need help. I have to do the 3 month weigh-in and nutritionist consult to get approved. Well, the doctor my surgeon wants me to go to for the weigh-in's is not covered by my insurance. So, I have to go to my PCP for the weigh-in's. O.k., that's the problem. I love my PCP. I have been going to her for 10 years, but she is not detailed at all. I know she will not write up the report the way she should. The first time my surgeon sent in for approval he needed a letter from her. She sent it over on a prescription note pad . I had to give it back to her and MAKE her write a real letter. I have Aetna insurance. I need to know exactly what they are looking for in the report from the doctor . I know I will have to tweek it, and tell her what should go in it. Please help I am stressing out.

Hmm. I don't have Aetna, but perhaps your surgeon could speak to your PCP so they can discuss how she needs to write it up. Since she is your PCP you'd think she'd be interested in helping you. I know my doctors all talk to eachother behind my back . Tell her why you need the weigh in, that you've had problems in the past and ask her to please call your surgeon to find out how to write it up. She really shouldn't have a problem with that..if she does then, well, maybe you need a new doctor! Hope that helps! Meredith

Good morning.........well, you can bet your booties that your PCP knows how to write a patient note that gets HER paid, so it's not her lack of knowledge that's at issue here. I learned a long time ago to take an active role in my own health care. That's evidently what you're gonna have to do here. When I got denied for service from my insurance company, I called and asked them exactly what they needed in writing to consider my claim for payment. They told me, I wrote it down word for word and then wrote my own letter. Fortunately, my doc didn't take offense, and put my letter - with minor changes - on his letterhead and signed it. It took me months to finally get paid for my evaluation services, but I got it. Whatever hoops you have to jump through to get this surgery will be worth it. I am so much healthier and happier today than I was two years ago it's hard to remember how much I hurt and how limited my life was. So, do what you have to do...you will never regret it! ....................Judy
