I was.. but I'm not going anymore. OH can't get their act together and get it organized. They told us one location.. then changed it without telling anyone.. and it's 20 miles in the opposite direction! No thanks.. I'll get more from reading books than paying $40, $50 or $60 on a "convention" that was a complete afterthought. Can you tell I'm completely fuming?? Stef

Stef, I agree...AND why do some cities get a full dinner, dancing thing...and Chicago only gets a 'convention'? I dont need to hear any speakers, really....not really interested. Sounds like this is more for pre ops and newbies than for us

Honestly, people get together for free (kinda, depends what the activity is of course) all the time. I wont spend big bucks for something I can get for free at a support group at the hospital I had surgery at. Have fun to those that do go though.

Hi there. I just thought I would put my two cents in. I am one of those people with a foot in each camp.... I had my surgery (RNY '01) in Chicago, where I lived at the time and still have a home, but I now live in Ohio. I have always felt a part of both places, although my Chicago connection is mostly long distance (HI Guys!). I went to the OH conference in Ohio and can report that there was something for everyone. Most of the people there were post-ops, but there were a few pre-ops. The agenda had things for everyone.......although it was more "newer" post-op, than older. But there were several sessions that spoke to the issues of longer-term post-ops. And since "...50% of WLS patients will gain back >50% of the excess weight lost by 5 years..." the information provided was invaluable to me. I don't have the immediate post-op problems, and my "honeymoon" was over before I new it had started. What was a struggle from day one has continued to be a struggle today. Several speakers at the conference were helpful in pointing me in new directions to try and adjust my approach to this life-long problem. Yes, I heard some of the same old stuff I've heard before. There were several sessions I could have done without. Overall it was worth the 1½ hr drive each way. From reading other posts, I understand there is frustration about the Chicago event. Have patience. I'm sure OH is trying to put on a first class event for Chicago. Now that Ohio is over, maybe there will be more information available. Many of the speakers in Ohio were local pratictioners..... I imagine getting a committment from Drs. can be challenging. Hang in there, I'm sure it will be worth the registration fee. Gayle in Ohio (formerly Illinois) maybe I will see you OCT 1st....... you never know
