BCBS of IL article

Here is an interesting article for BCBS of IL in 2006. www.bcbsil.com/PDF/bmb_fall05.pdf Please see the article on page 3 titled: DESIGNATED CENTERS FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY ESTABLISHED. I am not sure if they are going to limit folks to just these facilities or not. I have still not been able to find anything about BCBS of IL reducing their supervised diet to 6 months though.

very interesting ... I've always believed that where you have your surgery can influence the insurance approval process, I think this confirms my belief (btw I had mine done at Northwestern).

I think BCBS of Illinois should be commended on choosing centers of excellence. The list will grow. As most who are in the medical field you soon learn who not to go to for surgery and where not to go. WLS has been in the media focusing on the bad outcomes of this procedure. And it is hurting us the people who need this surgery. Even though anything can and will go wrong in the best of situations, there is a higher complication rate for under experienced surgeons, and inadequate medical facilities. Perhaps BCBS of Il. is looking out for their backs as well as ours. I think this is a good thing. Barb
