Hello family, I was wondering what you ate when your doc gave you a 10day "NO CARB" diet to shrink the liver. Although my doc did not do this, I am told this helps them to see the insides better, just trying to HELP HIM OUT...LOL

My doctor didnt say no carbs he said no food.. nothing but fluids.. the clearer the better.. and it wasnt all that hard.. I just constantly drank stuff. like water, juice, broth, ate some jello too... And yes it does make it easier for the surgeon... Good Luck!!!!

You better clarify with your doctor because it usually is a liquid only diet to help shrink the liver, no food. Although you basically are doing the Atkins diet, you may loose some weight in the process. Good luck on your journey.

I have just started my 2 week diet. It consists of a protein drink in am, a protein drink midday, and 4 ounces of protein w/small vege. It's always best to check with your doc first. Better safe than sorry. Debbie

I have to do a 10-day, high protein(60-100grams a day) low calorie(1000 calories) diet before surgery. It's basically two protein shakes, and some frozen dinners. I can have food but just high protein food. A vitamin supplement and walking everyday is also a part of the 10 day diet.

Did your Dr tell you to do this or is it something you are just doing on your own? Not all docs do any thing of this kind. i did not have to sdo any weird diet preop at all. I ate normally up to noon the day before surgery and then liquids that night and nothing after midnight. the whole idea of shrinking the liver is also pretty controversial. Not everyone believes it really happens by fasting etc prior to surgery. There is no solid evidence I have seen to support it. I have read several things that debunk it. before you start this, talk to your dr and see if it is his practice.

Pre-op I was on a low-carb diet. No more than 50g of carbs a day and between 60-80g of protein a day..all liquids. I found a few good products. Try the low-card Slim Fast. The chocolate is great. It had only 4g of carbs in one can and 20g of protein. Also, there is a whey protein power called Unjury. You mix it with 8oz of skim milk. A serving of the Unjury (the chocolate flavor) itself has 3g of carbs and 20g of protein, then just add the carbs from the serving of milk. As for other stuff, I found low-carb yogurt smoothies. They were made by Blue Bunny. And once a day, I had cream soup (certain kinds..look for the ones with lower carbs) mixed with water instead of milk. It doesn't sound that great, but trust me, at that point, it hits the spot. Hope I gave you some useful ideas. :)
