Topic: RE: Lap band for carb addict?
I am a carb addict so to speak and a binge eater and I've done well with the band.  I usually binged on sweets and the band puts a quick halt to that behavior so it really does help.  However, if you have severe reflux, I think that would be a big concern especially if your band gets a little too tight.  Definitely check out all your options.  Weigh out all the pros and cons of each surgery type for you.  Don't rush in to this decision.  It's a decision you'll live with forever.

Topic: RE: Reviews on plastic surgeons
I had a full abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with liposuction, a breast lift and augmentation with silicone implants.  My grand total was $11,300, all inclusive.  Silicone implants cost more than saline but I liked the look and feel of them better.  Dr. Bergman's cost also includes follow-up care.  I still see her annually and it is covered by the initial surgical cost.  Be sure to check if follow-up care is included when shopping for a doctor.  My sister-in-law got a "bargain" with a coupon in the Sunday paper.  She had her surgery and was never scheduled for even one follow-up appointment to see if she healed well or even survived the recovery time.

Topic: RE: Lap band for carb addict?
the lap band is really easy to eat "around" meaning if you eat alot of carby soft foods or drink alot of empty calories you either wont lose all the weight that you need to or you will gain it back quite easily. i have heard that the rny is pretty good at relieving heartburn but remember, you have more than 2 choices for surgery options. be sure you check out all of your options before making a solid choice. check out all the other forums and make an informed decision. too many people get a particular surgery and, when that surgery fails, they have to have some sort of revision. revisions are difficult to do and can be dangerous so please weigh all your options before you decide on a surgery you will have to live with for the rest of your life. best of luck!

Hi everyone!  I have now seen 2 different surgeons in trying to decide between the rny or the lap band.  The lap  band surgeon told me he thought i would do great with the band.  Even after i told him i am addicted to carbs/sugar/ sweets.  I also have terrible acid reflux/heartburn.  Any opinions on this anyone?  I'm calling tomorrow to see the new dietician and psychiatrist associated w/ the lap band surgeon's practice as it's at another hospital so they need me to see their people i guess. Thank you so much!  Laura

Topic: RE: Anyone had "open" RNY by Dr. Huse?
I have Dr Huse and on 8/12/10 I had the RNY Lap not open. You need to ASK him why he feels you need open...sometimes its the size of our bodies like in the stomach area that they feel lap would not be a clear shot.

ASK why he has chosen open...and that you want Lap...I made that pretty clear...Dr Huse has been doing this surgery 28 years...and you are in the hands of a GOOD doctor I will say that...but YOU need to voice yourself as to what it is you want and if he does not agree then ask why...he has to give you an answer.

Find out why they are saying open before you agree to it.  LAP gives you a faster recovery time and less scars.  If it is simply that he prefers open then I would be finding another DR. If there is a medical reason why you need open then go for it.

I am only one, But still, I am one.  I cannot do everything, but still I can do something.  And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do
the something that I can do.

I just had my wls, which was an open rny, because I had a previous scar down my abs,and the was to much fatty scar tissue. I am glad that I had it done this way, because while the surgeon was in there he removed alot of the fatty tissue.
Another reason I liked the open was that they could get in there and see what they needed to without relying on a camera.
