I'm having a hard time finding a doctor to write an approval for my insurance to cover my surgery. My GP is very anti-weight loss surgery and I know that even though I have tried unsuccessfully for 3 years to lose weight that he will not write this letter. Anyone in Indiana know of a doctor who would? I have a BMI of 40+ and I'm only 24. I need help so I can LIVE MY LIFE!!

Thanks, Trac.  Day one went fine.  It was a little rough.......but I did it.....I actually did it.  I forgot to mention that I'm also quitting smoking (smoked about a pack a week) and trying to quit drinking as well (that didn't help my weight gain at all).  Not that I drank all the time, but one night a weekend throwing in an extra 1000 calories or so.....not very helpful.  Thanks so much for the support.  Day two is here.....gettin ready to have my protein shake for b-fast.  Made the kiddos some whole wheat pancakes with lite syrup and wasn't even dying to try them.  Of course pancakes aren't really my thing, so that definitely helped!  LOL

Thank you all for your replies. They were very helpful and encouraging. It so nice to hear people that have gone thru this process and came out a better person, healthier person , and happier person. I need a change and this seems to be the last resort. I want to be able to live life and be there for my 4 yr. old and my husband and beable to do things  that seem simple to some people and that alot people take for granted. Thanks again and I will def be reading this often and posting. Everyone have a great week!

Hi Britt-

I don't have personal experience with St. Francis but as a professional/patient in the bariatric field I welcome the questions you have!  My advice to you is to do what is best for you! Research as much as possible and attend as many support groups as you can.  There you will get information from patients who have been through the process and hear it from people who have walked the walk!

I do encourage you to invite those who will be your support system to attend support groups with you.  Long term support from your program and those closest to you I feel is one of the Keys to success.

Sometimes it's the not knowing that scares those around you and they may repeat only what they have heard from others talking about bariatric surgery.  Education and accurate information will help answers those burning questions your family/friends may have.

This board is a great way to receive additional support and get answers to your questions.  We all have our personal journey's to share and welcome any questions you may have.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day~
