Topic: WELCOME TO THE KANSAS STATE FAIR!

Hello all! Hope you all got a chance to come to Hutchinson for the fair! If you haven't been there yet, there is always Friday through Sunday! My hubby, a friend yesterday, and had a blast! We went to the ?? Diamond hypnotic show, followed by Matt Roloff, the dad on Little People, Big World. It was really good, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The weather has been better than normal for the fair, except for one day when it rained. Hope you all who come to the fair have a great time!       Hugs to All,  LaNeta

I am a self-pay and have been to seminars in Lenexa and Shawnee Mission.  I plan to visit Tallgrass and then make my decision.  Would any of you Tallgrass folks be willing to share what the cost is and what it includes?  Are fills extra?  I was very impressed with the two places I've seen, but I live in Kansas and Tallgrass is more convenient in terms of location.  Also, how is the after-care program? Thanks much! Jim

Thank you for getting back with me.  I thought the charges SFL were charging was excessive, I didn't know about the physical fee.  It does seem they want to make money.  I'm going Oct 8th to the seminar in KC.  Did you go to any of the support groups, before or after?  I know Hutch has a support group here.  Thanks for the info!!  Jan

Experience, experience, experience....especially if you are wanting the Lap Band.  The doctor's in Wichita are well experienced with Gastric Bypass....but they didn't do their first LapBands until June.  According to the manufacturer of the band, any surgeon with under 150 surgeries is considered inexperienced.  Now, I'm not saying that every doctor didn't have to start somewhere....or that the doctor's in wichita aren't completely competent to do the job.  But, I just have this one body...and I am not comfortable being "practice".   Now the other BIG difference between Wichita and KC is the program itself.  Solutions for Life has so many additional charges that they don't tell you about upfront.  They charge for a physical with Dr. Early before you can see the surgeon.  They charge you a rediculous $250 administrative fee. (I have yet to figure out what that was really for.)  They charge you for your pre-op classes...they charge you for the educational material.  They charge you for your post op classes....they make you purchase their pre-op diet....etc. etc. etc.  It all adds up to well over $1000-1500 out of pocket that isn't included on any of your insurance.  In my opinion....they are a cash cow.  There have been none of those rediculous charges through Dr. Hoehn's program.  Everything has been included in the price of the surgery....as it should be.  Of course, there are charges for the nut and psych evals....but that is with all the programs.  Just do your homework and make the decision that is best for you.  If you haven't been to KC's seminar, I would strongly suggest it before making any decisions.  Good luck! I for one, didn't want open surgery....and I wasn't comfortable with the experience level of LivLite's new surgeon.  Therefore I opted to go to Shawnee Mission and Dr. Hoehn because of the experience and being a center for excellence.  Again, this was just a personal decision on my part.  Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I have gone to the seminar for Solutions for Life for the Lap Band, but I'm thinking of Dr. Hoehn.  I live in Hutch, I don't mind driving.  What were the differences between the two?  Thanks, Jan

Hi there! Yes, it was a bit embarrassing, but I am glad God gave me a good sense of humor! Don't wet your pants now! HA! I understand that too, though my mom had the problem, not me. I went back to my dr on Wednesday, and I am down 47#, so I am thrilled! Good to hear from you! LaNeta
