Banded and finally home! (LONG)

Sorry it has taken me soo long to report in.  I went to Ontario last week prior to surgery.  Spent time in the clinic being trained to do the fill adjustments, Thursday I spent with my niece for her 13th birthday and then had my new buddy, the band, placed early Friday morning.  I cannot even begin to relate how surreal this has been.  I have been researching and working towards this for more than 2 1/2 years.  I was scheduled for 12noon and the day prior was changed to 9:20am.  After negotiating the morning rush hours traffic for the greater Toronto area, my sister and I left Oshawa at 5:45am.  We ended up at the clinic at 7:15.  Well it worked out great because they called looking for me and ended up making me the first surgery.  I was in surgery before 8:30 and in recovery by 9.  Left for home around 12.  I woke in recovery accusing them of not putting anything in me and I had paid good money for something to be put inside me!!!  I took some tylenol elixir Friday night for a headache but was able to get in and out of bed without difficulty, I could lie on either side.  Just had to sit up every couple hours and rock and walk the gas pains.  All in the left side and shoulder, wow, never imagined that I would feel like that, the gasx didn't do much.  Just plain burp and burp somemore.  Slept a lot on Friday.  Went visiting old friends on Saturday, shopping Monday and Tuesday and flew back home on Wednesday.  Went grocerie shopping yesterday.  Doctors and shopping today.  Now trying to get my house clean.  Oh at the doctors office today I was down to 314pounds.  That is 40 pounds gone!!!!!!!!  Sorry for the long post, I guess I just saved it all up.  I feel great and will be back to work Tuesday nightshift in the emergency dept.  Stomach is sore when I bend or the kids climb on me otherwise don't feel like anything happened to me!  Best of luck everyone that is pre-op.  I sure hope your surgery experience is as easy as mine was!!!!

Did I read that right, you were trained to do you band adjustments yourself? Glad you went with the band.

Thanks everyone.  Even my cranky 19 year old said I seem happier today.  Well yes, it just seems like a miracle has come my way. God bless my 9 year old son, this morning after I got dressed, he looked at me and said, you are getting skinnier and skinnier!.  He knew just what to say to make his momma's day! My 3 year old just keeps pulling my shirt up and looking at the steri-strips. Yes, I have been trained to do the fill adjustments.  I am a critical care nurse and have been accessing porta-caths for cancer patients for a long time.  Kind of the same idea but different needles and deeper access in the stomach.

Can I say how happy I am for you and really jealous! I was banded Monday and I can still barely move. It's starting to bum me out a bit but really am just happy to have my band. I am glad to hear that you are back and doing well. Congrats on your new family member (band). Have you named it yet?
