Side effects from band???
Quite a few people get hiccups or the burps as a soft stop signal that you've eaten enough, a couple ppl even comment that their noses run as a soft stop. I also burp all the time, it's like a sign that all is good for me. Last side effect for me is First Bite Syndrome where I can't eat solid dense protein unless I've drunk some really ho****er or tea to get the muscle at the bottom of my esophagus to open up. Once it's opened, I can eat a normal sized meal of protein & veg, but without it, I'm stuck & miserable.

I have absolutely no idea about why we get the various soft stop signals. I guess it's just our bodies way of warning us that we're done. As far as First Bite, I don't have ideas, but I do know that dysphagia is a side effect that is mentioned in the Lap Band studies.
I just think it's interesting to note how our bodies change & react to the band & weight loss.

My weirdest side effect is excessive salivation when I eat. It's not really a problem and it's nothing that anyone but me would notice, but it.
Some of the side effects (PB's, sliming, stuck episodes) are caused by careless eating.
Others, like hiccups, burping, etc. are probably caused by the pressure of the band against the nerves in the upper stomach and by the presence of the band near the diaphragm. This stimulation of nerves sends signals to areas in the brain that are responsible for appetite, hunger, digestion, etc.

Actually, your unconscious brain knows you're full before your conscious brain does. BB (Before Band) I used to think I was in charge of my body and brain, but it turned out to be a delusion.
One of my "side effects" from the band is that I have finally started paying attention to my body's signals, not just about appetite, hunger, and satiety, but a host of other things, and I have gained a new respect for how complicated the whole thing is. It amazes me that I manage to breathe, move, taste & digest food, process waste, see, hear, speak, think, dream, laugh, cry, while at the same time my heart is pumping, all with minimal effort on my part.

I get a hiccup or a burp after I start eating and that is when I know two-three more bites and I am over full. That "soft sign" sometimes brings me comfort but I also know that I have to stop eating soon and I still have some difficult with that. I guess when you have more of a history over eating to the point of feeling that you are going to explode it is very hard to listening to any signal other that for some time. LOL
Yeah...I start to get the burping when I'm ready to stop. But one side effect that I have, which my doctor had no answer for, is that my tummy gets really, really tender. I'm sure I've shrunk my stomach a lot during these astt 5 1/2 months, but once I'm full, if touch my stomach (even slightly) it hurts. It's almost like touching a bruise. So strange.
