I'm grossed out and frustrated....
Ok so I'm six week post op and have been on a high soft protien diet. All was well until about 5 days ago. Befopre surgery I was never really a great big meat lover. I mean I like some of it but not usually by itself. I liked a good delmonico once in a while, hot hamburg. I liked shake-n-bake pork chops, bacon, ham. Chicken I only starting liking about 2 years ago when I realized that it had to be more dry for me to eat. I like it shake-n-baked but cooked longer then the directions ask for and I also like it cooked in dry garlic sauce. I do not eat any seafood and I do not eat any mayo or miracle whip so chicken or egg salads are out of the question. So anyways 5 days ago I'm chewing on my second bite of beef from beef stew that I had made and got so grossed out...so I came back to work and had a slim fast. The next day I got some roast beef in sauce and on my first bite after chewing it really well I got grossed out again and again had a slim fast for lunch. Today at lunch I tried to eat some chicken....again the second bite and chewing really well GROSSED OUT!!! I just can't handle the taste or texture......
I do have a nut and doc appt next Tuesday and I'm hoping I get cleared for more food types. I'd love a good salad...but I know I need to get my protiens and I'm feeling frustrated because I can't live on slim fast....I'll eventually get sick of that too. I do drink sugar free chocolate milk but I don't think I'm still getting enough protein....I'm happy I had my surgery and I feel great and I know I did the right thing by having it....I just hope this being grossed out of meat will pass soon!!!

do you like veggie burgers and crumbles? ground turkey or ground pork? I guess if I were you i'd pick something you do like and tollerate and get inventive. ask for recipe's. Let me know what you like and I'll try to help, I enjoy experimenting and cooking. you'll figure this out, and mean while get that protein in with your protein shakes.
It doesn't help that I've always been so fussy.... spoiled by mama....she never ever made me eat anything I didn't like...and I'm always worried about trying new foods. I did see that website that has a ton of cottage cheese recipes and I'm gonna try some of this over the weekend. So far my pouch isn't fussy just my taste buds
Thanks for the ideas and I'm definately gonna look around for new recipes.

Six weeks isn't too bad to still be dancing around protein choices, I found my taste buds changed, cannot tolerate Tuna which was one of my go to lunches, chicken it really hard for me a couple of bites and I am done even with gravey. So Stick to your protein shakes, I LOVE Artic Cappachino from Nashua Nutrition, have it every morning for breakfast and if I come up short I'll have another for snack or supper. Find a shake you like and use it until you figure out the solid proteins...do you like eggs and cheese??Mix salsa and mozarella with eggs and have a mexican frittata(mild salsa) Doesn't sound like you are getting enough protein and you will start losing your hair if you don't step it up a bit...
good luck.
good luck.
It was magic when she realized who she had become...

Finally it moved!
Wish I had other suggestions for you......but what everyone else has told you is SOO true! Those salads will come, in time. I did the protein shakes for quite a while too but I've always loved meat/protein, so I was happy to add that back in to my diet. How about eggs? Cottage cheese? string cheese? mix some protein powder into sugar free pudding? Just a few ideas! Hopefully your tastes will change and you'll be able to tolerate more variety!
Hang in there!! I'll keep my fingers crossed that this will pass for you!

I'm sure it will pass....how soon....well can be awhile. The first six months were rough for me and quite honestly - I was a 52 year old with bad eating habits - although a portion of this I attribute to food adversion - something I'm still working on overcoming. Texture can be a big issue for me - always has been. Give me chicken that has been heated in the microwave - whether I'm aware or not - and I'm instantly praying to the porcelin gods.
I am finding after much work and getting past the first few months I am getting better at tolerating foods I would never of eaten before surgery. Seafood, however I'm just plain allergic to.
