my mum...

Well I got a call from my older brother about 7:30 yesterday morning...
I haven't seen or heard from him in (almost) a year and a half...
he called to tell me that my mum (who I also haven't seen or spoken to in just as long) had been in a car accident on Sunday.
She's in ICU @ EMMC with a broken neck, lots of bruises and has lost the feeling
on her left side...the Dr. does think this is temporary though.  I did go to the hospital after my NUT app't. not knowing if I'd be allowed in or not...but went anyway.
My DS's were with me and my oldest son drove down from Princeton.
Anyway...the nurse went in and told her I was there and then came out with a smile and motioned for us to go in...I gotta admit it was a bit awkward...but I'm glad I went...and I'm going back up today after my morning bus run...
My mum will be 78 in Sept. and (Thank God) has decided her "driving days" are
done and is going to turn in her license !!
WHY does it take something like this to make us wake up and realize that tomorrow isn't promised ??  That's a whole year and a half that we've wasted and will never get back...I know I'm babbling and I apologize...but PLEASE...if y'all could keep my mum in your thoughts & prayers for the next couple of days I sure would appreciate it...Thank You & Take Care !!

Ah Deb, cause it does take something tlike this to wake up and realize it...don't look back, life is only lived in one direction anyway-forward-and what matters now is that you have her back in your life...so shake off the what ifs ane the should'ves and could'ves and say for TODAY this is ok....My prayers are going out for healing mercies for your Mom and YOU...

My prayers go out to you Mum and the rest of your family.  Ignore the awkwardness and listen to what  your heart says. Hindsight is 20/20, so just worry about tommorrow.

Thank You Everyone !!

I don't know what I'd do without my OH "family"...
You're all so awesome and truly amazing !!

I did go back up to EMMC this morning on my down time...she didn't look a whole lot better and still has no feeling on her left side...the nurse did say she will be meeting with a PT and will most likely be getting some help with the issues she's having.  The nurse also got her up and sitting on the side of her bed while I was there...she had to have someone right next to her on the bed as she was real lightheaded and a bit unsteady but we were told that is perfectly normal considering everything she's been through.  I also found out it took (almost) 40 mins. to get her out of the car on Sunday...which by the way is "totaled" and she has made the decision to send her license into the state...which I am very happy to hear !!
I'll be going back up tomorrow after my morning run...and hopefully there will be some news on her physical therapy...
Take Care All ~

Thanks for the update!  It'll be a long recovery from the sounds of it, but, if she's determined, she can do it!  I see people do it all the time!   You are doing awesome to be so supportive!
Take care of yourself too....ok???
Hugs,
Ruth
