No birthday cake for me

My birthday was the 3rd. (62) I went into the school where I volunteer on Friday and they had bought me a birthday cake. I thought oh no how will I handle this. I made my son's wedding cake 2 years ago I never even tasted it. I do not want to know if I can eat it without getting sick what would stop me if I could ??
So I fretted all morning. Then at lunch my supervisor said well you can't eat that can you? I said no but I am honored that you got it for me and I will enjoy watching all the teens eating it. And all was happy.

Good for you, they will understand. Trust me, they want to get the cake for you, and let's face it, them too! They CAN eat cake, we can't. It's okay, I think cake is over-rated. But HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

You're right, there are foods I don't want to know if I can eat. That would open the door to disaster. Good for you. The rest of them can enjoy it.

Good for you - and good for the school for at least recognizing it after the fact. Where I work we have a lot of people that have had WLS = many of them are bringing in brownies, cakes, chocolate covered pretzels - just makes me shake my head, and because they are eating it my coworkers don't understand why it's off limits for me.
