ALCOHOL INFO PLEASE
Ok, so I am a year out and haven't had a drink since February last year. What will happen when I do? What is everyone else's experience with drinking after surgery? I have never been much of a drinker but like a nice glass of wine and when I am in the islands a Bahahamama or two. So what happens? Forgot to ask the DR if we ever should drink again.
It was magic when she realized who she had become...

Finally it moved!
I have heard and read some reviews about this. The post that TWCamber posted yesterday or Saturday about an article on CBS had some studies about alcohol after WLS. I get the impression that you should be somewhere safe and not alone at least the first time you try it. It hits you faster and harder. But, that study I just mentioned said that it didn't. But people's experiences that I've heard say it does. Also, I would be concerned about dumping on drinks that are TOO sweet. Good luck, it will be interesting to hear what people say.
I know my doctor says no to alcohol. I also heard for the information meeting I attended that people have gotten DWI on a half of drink due to how it goes straight to the blood stream. I know after my surgery the pain med**** me pretty quickly and I have a really high tolerance usually. I would definately take it slow and make sure you don't plan on driving. I bet you will be a pretty cheap date. LOL

I tried a drink at home before i went to mexico last year. a half a shot of vodka and tomato juice hit me real hard. so when i went i had one drink but made the mistake of having a pina colada.
not a good choice i dumped big time on the sugar. but i have had one drink since then and i stuck with a bloody mary and sipped it a real long time.. It did hit me hard and one drink was enuf. I dont drink much at all anymore like now two in a year. so stay away from anything with sugar in it. I dont do soda it makes me fill full of gas so i had a bloody mary. Husband calls me a cheap date but that is ok dont spend much money on booze or food.
Our program really would rather you not have any but be very careful if you do. It is real easy to get lots of unwanted calories if you drink more than one . I dont miss it and can be just as happy with cranbery light with light orange juice and ice and no one knows the difference
Have a great day

I'm not a drinker (college days yes) but for the last 5 years or so, hardly ever. I might drink a few times a year on a holiday or at a wedding/ Last year before we went to Vegas I experimented at home. I had one drink, a malibu and flat diet sierra mist. I did drink it slow, but didn't notice any effect. Since then (a year ago), we have gone out maybe 3 times...including new years. I have had about 2 drinks each time and never caught a buzz...I was fine. I had those mojito drinks in the glass bottle the last time and was fine. I imagine the people that have issues with dumping may have a different experience.
I know exactly what you mean about wanting a drink every once in awhile. Especially if I was in the carribean!
I would say have one at home, take it slow and see how it goes. Then you will know exactly how it affects you when you are out with other people around.
