Topic: My Fitness Pal

Just found this tool to track food/excercise. I am sure it has been mentioned before on this forum but I missed it and thought I would put it out there again. Yes it tracks calories but they are easy to find on the online database, or you can create your own file.  If using your own recipe it is more difficult but I just found something similar online. I tend to cook pretty healthy so I just used the equivalent food online that was the highest in values. That way my would be less calories but I still think I had more.  Any tool to help right?

OOPs edit I forgot to add the Web address,

 http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

2ND Edit ( I suck)   the website for fitness pal is Free

Hi Krista,
I can certainly empathize with you and your situation.  I had my surgery just over a year ago.
I do want to give you some info that might seem like I am being mean, I'm not.  I'm just not sugarcoating.
Do you know your BMI?  Halifax is only doing surgery on those with a bmi of between 40-60, they are not set up/prepared to do surgery for those with a bmi of over 60.  The risks of doing so are greater than they are prepared to accept I think.   When I saw Dr. Ellsmere, I weighed around 355 lbs,  I got the gears.  He told me if I came to him any bigger on my surgery date that he would not be able to do the surgery.  That my bmi was very close to the 60 mark. I came that next month down at least 15 lbs.  There was no way, he was sending me home without surgery!
I do know of a woman who was seen by the clinic but told she had to lose a certain amount of weight before she could be considered for the surgery.  She hasn't been able to lose and has not had the surgery.
I guess my advice to you is, don't put all your eggs in one basket and wait.  Do it now.  Cut out as much rice, bread, pasta and potatoes as you can.  Increase your vegetables and get out and walk!  I KNOW that it isn't easy!  But no matter whether you have had the surgery or not losing weight is hard work.  Thats the difference for me.  I somehow managed to click about the amount of work I needed to put in to lose the weight.  Is it still a challenge for me??? You bet it is.  I have lost 90 lbs and some have lost way more than me in less time.  BUT I have lost 90 lbs!  I have sooo much more mobility and energy.  Most days I come home from work and do a 5k walk or walk/run with my dog.  Yes, I have started running.  On Saturday, I ran for 25 mins without stopping.
Anyway, I just felt I had to put it out there not to wait, to do it now!!  I KNOW it is a daunting task but YOU are worth it!

I like the Kaizen brand from Costco for protein powder.  I also like their ready to drink shakes - Premier Protein - they only have chocolate right now but they're great for grabbing one to take with you - 160 calories, 30 g protein, 1 g sugar, 3 g fiber, 3 g fat and only 5 g carbs - some people have said it tastes like chocolate milk - it doesn't to me, but it's still pretty good  :)  Also, a while back I posted a site with a ridiculous amount of protein shake recipes and in a couple of other posts I posted a recipe for a protein shake that didn't need protein powder, plus there is one for Greek yogurt too  :)

I can't say when it went away for sure because it happened gradually - but I'm at the 8 month mark today and I can't think of any symptoms that I still have  :)  I did lose a lot of hair but that has slowed to a regular rate again too (thank goodness!!  lol)

Topic: 8 Month Update
Eight months out already - that last month really flew by!

91.2 lbs gone!!

Rate of Loss:
Month 1 - 28 lbs
Month 2 - 12 lbs
Month 3 - 12 lbs
Month 4 - 12 lbs
Month 5 - 11 lbs
Month 6 -   5 lbs
Month 7 -   6.8 lbs
Month 8 -   4.4 lbs

It's frustrating that it's coming off so slowly now - especially since I am more active now than I have ever been before!  Still, I weigh 178.8 lbs which is less than when I got married, so I'm still pretty pleased  :)  Some of you were asking for an "after" pic, but I can't give you one because I'm not done yet, but here is a 'during' pic that was taken last night   :))  (there are more photos on my profile page)

Topic: RE: Hi I'm new to this forum
I try to hold the Truro support group meetings once/month - usually on a weekend afternoon so everyone has a chance to get here.  They are held at the Community room of the Sobeys on Robie Street - I will post the next meeting date on here  :)  Also I can't remember if we said anything about the OWLSS Facebook page -  http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?cropsuccess&id=618435775 #!/group.php?gid=320715564655

Keep up with the weights & getting out & living - it's the very best cure!  :)

I had the Centrum 50+ chewable and I hated it!  It tasted awful.  I would avoid taking it so I had to go buy the Flintstones ones!  (I am short 10 years so didn't really want to take a 50+ anyway!)
You only have to use the chewable ones for the 8 weeks after surgery then you can switch back to the swallowable ones.

Last time I bought protein powder, I bought the unflavored one at Costco.
