My support group meets the first Tuesday of each month, in Greenville...Am not sure if thats too far for you to go or not, about 45 minutes from Dayton..Give or take.
Be sure to take your measurements before having surgery...I never gave it a thought and now after losing 200 pounds I would give anything to know how many inches Ive lost...
Good luck with your surgery...Tammy
Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only TRUE FRIENDS will leave footprints in your heart...And may that friendship have such a ONENESS that when one weeps the other will taste salt...Friends are like balloons ; once you let them go you can't get them back....So I'm going to tie you to my heart so I never lose you.
I am having my surgery april 18th and I am looking for support from my area. I find this website helpful but I want to attend support groups also. So far I have found only one support group once a month. I am having the sleeve procedure because of health issues. I wanted the RNY but could not so I intend to make the sleeve work for me. I find that having support from others that have the same issues as I to be extremely important for staying on the right track. Please let me know your out there, and maybe we can help each other. Hope to here from you soon. Sara

I ended up doing the questions on slips of paper, which went GREAT...Everyone seemed to enjoy it...
We have already done the personal story type thing...Each month someone had 10-15 minutes to tell about themselves...Some showed before and now pictures, and pictures of when they were in school, when they were born and etc...It was a great way to get to know each other...They told about their interests/ hobbies and etc...
I like the idea about the county park system , I might have to check into having someone come to our group...Thanks for your imput...Tammy

Is your idea for an ice-breaker? How well do you know the group? I just ask because I think some people might find this kind of threatening. If you know the people well enough and believe they are fine with it then go for it.
I think a nice touch for a support group meeting is having someone tell their personal story. Maybe start with you and other people you think are more vocal and willing to share. Don't make it a requirement. Make sure it is voluntary. One a meeting works good. It gives people a chance to meet other members.
This month my support group is having a ranger from the county park system talk about outdoor activities and events such as a hiking spree or bike excursions. It's a nice way to encourage people to get out and be active.
Brainstorm the program topics at your next meeting. Maybe survey the people by email.
Hope these help.

What have you been told?
What is the best way to get information? UHC knows nothing! Says we don't have WLS as a benefit.

Yes family members are welcome to come...Please feel free to bring your Mom along, as well as your Aunt...The more the merrier...Our May meeting is our 3 year anniversary party, so we have more fun things planned that night...We have a girl that belongs to our group who has a beautiful voice and will be singing for us...Plus Marlene and I dress up as Wishy Washy Women and do skits, and if things work out, we will be doing a skit that night...
As far as age, our youngest is probably in the early 30's...oldest is in her late 60's ( I think)...We would love to have you in our group...Good luck with your surgery on the 4th...Be sure to take your measurements before you go...I never took mine and now I wish that I would have...I would just love to know how many inches Ive lost...
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask...Take care...Tammy
