Dr. Gorospe vs. Dr. Walton (Weight Wise)
I don't know Dr. Gorospe, but I'm sure he is a great surgeon. But, I am going to be totally biased here. Weight Wise and Dr. Walton is the absolute best! Everyone there is so helpful and nice. Where does Dr. G. perform his surgery? At Weight Wise the hospital there only does bariatric surgeries; therefore all the staff knows exactly what they are dealing with and knows exactly what kind of care you need. There is only 14 rooms, so the nurses aren't swamped with a huge floor of patients they have to deal with. I have heard from other people on this forum that had their surgeries at a hospital and the floor people weren't that familiar with the type of surgery they had. One was even brought a regular dinner after his surgery from the cafeteria! The price at Weight Wise includes everything -- surgeon, hospital, anethesea (sp?) You might have like an extra $1000. total to pay for all the pre and post-op office visits to him, and the other staff There is no other hidden costs. I had my 6 week post op visit yesterday, and told him and the other staff that this has been an awesome and wonderful experience for me, and I am SO glad I had this done at Weight Wise. I can't even imagine having it anywhere else. This is definately not a case of paying less, getting less, it's pay less, get more!! Good luck with your decision. Michael
I attended a Weight Wise seminar with Dr. Walton and I've have my first appt with him. I was also able to get my other appts (phych, diet, and exercise) done in the same day because I live 3 1/2 hours away. For the VSG, the $12,500 is broken down like this:
Surgeon-$3700; Anesthesia-$900; Facility-$7900. That covers a 2 day stay, pre and post op visit with surgeon, support groups, post op follow up with surgeon for 1 yr.
They also say you'll need up to an additional $2500 for pre op tests.

A lot of my pre-op tests were actually covered by my insurance. I had the stress test and all my lab work was covered by insurance. They also will charge you $15 for each nut or psych office visit if you are self-pay instead of the $75.00 they would normally bill insurance. When you get those bills you just need to call them and remind them you are self-pay. (at WeightWise)
