Has anyone cheated on their post op diet?

It's been really hard for me to follow the post op diet. The only thing I have tried that I wasn't suppose to is soup.

I would be lying if I said no one has cheated.  How often you cheat will effect your goals though.  Now that being said, don't eat something you should not eat too early, it could greatly harm you.

Now once you are a ways out if you want a cookie...have a cookie.
Have a VERY small bite of cake
Try a THIN slice of pizza
things like that....

The key is don't do it often and stick to the foods that work for you and that your doc and nutritionist said you should eat to best get you to goal and keep you at goal.  You know the drill...stay away from pasta, rice, breaded foods, fried foods, high carbs, high calories, high sodium, etc etc.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't been that bad. Just some tomato soup here and there. I'm looking forward to this Saturday. I get to start pureed foods. By the way I had Lap Band surgery.

I'm not familiar with your doctor and what he requires for you.  I'm sure your nut has given you guidelines.  When I ready your earlier post I thought wow, we couldn't have anything but clear liquids for 2 weeks.  I did stay on the post op 2 week diet religiously.

The soups need to be counted as liquids later on because they are "slider" foods.  Protein, protein, protein is what you should be eating first and then some veggies and other things.  But, after the protein you most likely won't need much else.  Just try to remember if you must have the soup have it before your meal and not with or after because it will be similar to drinking with your meal.  We all have things from time to time that we shouldn't have but your success is going to be in direct proportionate to your being able to keep to your surgeon's and nut's guidelines for you personally.

I know for me I was self-pay and I wrote a big ole check and won't get overs.  I desperately needed to loose this weight and can't afford for me not to try to do my part as best as I can.  I do know that surgery was done on my stomach and not my brain and unfortunately that is what most of us use...head hunger and not very often "stomach" hunger.  Good luck...just know that you won't be perfect on this just like the rest of us out here!!!  Welcome to the "looser's bench"!

You think a little tomato soup is cheating!  You're cracking me up!

But seriously, we have all had some things we shouldn't, I'll bet!  I know I have.  Nothing really makes me sick and those evil carbs slide right down!

You're human....  We ALL do some of this.  Having surgery is no magic pill but does give us an awesome new tool to use with all the other things we have to re-learn and focus on.  I was never one to exercise and I have had to MAKE myself do the exercise thing.  I have help at home in that my kids are grown so I don't have to buy anything that isn't WLS friendly to bring home to eat.   My husband is an awesome support for me and he eats what I eat...just more of it and neither of use eat the same junk we once did.  He's lost weight just because we don't graze in the evenings and have that big bowl of icecream at bed time.....  I try to remember GlitterGal's moto

Remember Kim:  Food is fuel NOT entertainment!   I think that sums it up for most of us!!!  Hang in there.

I also had lap band surgery and tomato soup was on my list after 3 days out. So I'm sure you will be fine.

I've been awful since I've been on the road.  It's much easier to stay on the (more or less) straight and narrow at home.  Hang in there.

Early post op is for safety-so try to adhere to that as closely as you can.  Further out-you are back into weight loss, and I don't think you can restructure your entire relationship with food overnight (and have it last).  The people I know who never ventured from the path STILL had trouble after losing the weight because they never redefined their relationship with food-of course now they get to redefine it at a smaller size.

Not saying one way is better over another-just that if you don't redefine, at some point you will gain weight or stop losing.  But, the good news is, it's not like one cookie is the end of all things-unless you let it be.
