I had about a fourth of a Sargento String Cheese. It tasted pretty good. Is that pretty normal for a first day eater?

I had 1/2 of a string cheese but ate it over about 30 minutes.  So that is probably about right.

That sounds pretty normal to me.  I don't think I could each much more than that...maybe 1/2 a stick but no more.

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

Jenn,

The most important lesson that I had to learn (the hard way) was taking tiny bites and chewing them until they practically disolve.  Of course, I had been told that before surgery, but it wasn't until I went in for my 6 week Post-Op checkup with Dr. B that it really sunk in.  I complained to him that I was only able to eat about 1/4 cup of food & often had pain after eating.  He reaffirmed the need for bites the size of a pencil eraser, no bigger than a dice and chewing really, really well.  Amazingly (duh!), I followed those rules and was able to eat significantly more at the next meal.  It was still a itty, bitty fraction of what I was eating before the surgery - but it made me feel better about going thru the effort to cook something.

I think you are doing great!  I just wanted to pass along the reminders that helped me out in the earliest stages.

Thanks for the reminder. I know that slow eating and small bites is an issue for me. Tonight I ate some refried beans and cheese to a timer that went off every 5 minutes so I would take a bite. It took 40 minutes to eat, but it was very good and i felt great after eating. I may need to eat with that timer for a while to keep it in my mind!

Hey Jenn!
That's great news! And are you back at work yet? How's that going? The timer idea is GREAT actually, forcing you to take your time. I am guilty of eating too quickly, never at the table, always seeming to be in a hurry.....but this will reinforce the importance of slowing down. You're going to do GREAT and I envy you already on your journey!
