Clinical depression is apparently a "red flag" for surgery consideration. But to me depression and obesity is a kind of chicken or the egg relationship, something worthy of a two pronged attack.
I would trust that the social worker would overlook the depression history if it was ascertained you had a proper outlook and - as you say - emotional readiness for WLS.

At the WLS orientation, they indicated that for anyone with other health issues, you need to be stable. So if your current health in relation to depression is stable, you should be alright. I used to suffer from clinical depression and have been stable for the last eight years and no longer require medication. Good luck!
