Unemployement

I am a bit confused with unemployment. I was told by a friend that because I am having surgery there is no 2 week waiting period, but then I have read on this site that there is. Can anyone who has recently had surgery advise what is the correct information. Also when I apply do I just go on line and apply, do I need a drs note? If I need a drs note do I get one when I am at the hospital or from my family dr or call the center and ask them for one?
Now it is becoming a reality (3 weks away) I am getting anxious and trying to get my ducks in a row.
thanks

I believe your friend is correct.  When I had my infection with my breast reduction and was put out on medical leave my 2 weeks was waived and benefits started immediately.  When I went out on sickness benefits for mental health the 2 weeks was in place.

When I had my RNY, I had to wait for 28 days before I saw any money from EI.... Aaand at the end I didn't get one week's "pay" they hold it. I was very upset as I was counting on those funds and I had to suffer... "there's nothing we can do." is what I got in talking to the EI office representative.

So, just to be on the safe side, make sure you have the funds set aside that you will need to live and survive

ETA: yes, EI will require you to have a drs note, I got one from my family dr. You can either apply online ooor go into an EI office... I did mine online and mailed in my drs note to the main EI office.

If i were you, I would apply for EI ASAP... When is your last day of work? Do you have your R.O.E already? Some employers can send it electronically

BELOW GOAL        Happily maintaining 4.5 years out!!   Life is GREAT!!!  Had my plastic surgery!

Your friend is incorrect. The two week waiting period is only waived if you have paid sick leave from your employer and you exhausted it first. Your last day of pay from your employer must be sick pay and your ROE should reflect that.

Chris

Ps short blunt reply because I am at work. Pm me and I will get back to you tonite if you need further help ( I worked for EI)
