SW & Medical Internist ??????
I have an appointment scheduled for Monday with the SW and then the Medical Internist on 7 June at HRRH. Can anyone give me any information about what to expect at these appointments.
What exactly do these 2 individual appointments entail?
I am just trying to figure out what is left to do in the process. So far I have had orientation, Surgeon's appt, Dietition's appt and bariatric class. Besides the two above mentioned appts what else is there?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what "SW" stands for, so I can't help you with that one.
But the internist (in my case Dr. Glazer at HRRH) is assigned to ensure that the "rest" of you comes through the surgery and the aftermath just fine. He's basically your watchdog for things like your heart and other organs, because the surgical team is busy with their scalpels etc.
Dr. Glazer (if you're lucky enough to get him) is amazing, and absolutely FULL of energy. This man runs at 200% all of the time.
He has taken multi-tasking to a whole new level. He is however exteremely caring and (I have it on excellent authority) extremely well-informed on any possible complications and risk factors for bariatric surgery.
He takes his job super-seriously.
If he tells you you're going to need another test before the surgery, don't scoff at him - he has good reason for saying so.
Be glad to have him on your side.

Hi Allyson. The only other appointment you should have is a final meeting with your surgeon to sign the consent forms and get your date for surgery.
The Social Worker will ask you similar questions that the dietician did - What do you know about the surgery, what are the side effects etc... she will make sure you have support in your life for before and after surgery, that you have tried other avenues to lose weight, why you failed etc...
The Internist will do an ECG and potentially a few other tests depending on your age/health. You may be sent for a sleep study.
Are you at Humber River? Every centre is a little different.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Oh!
Sorry - I just figured out that you're got Dr. Zupnick as your interist (didn't read your profile all the way through - I apologize.)
However I can tell you that mine did an EKG, and did a full write-up of previous surgeries and illnesses.
As for the SW I figured out that you probably meant the social worker.
In my interview with her, we covered:
spcyhological issues which may affect the success or failure of the surgery,
Accessibility or disability issues which might affetc the hospital stay or the recovery from surgery
any need for additional accommodation post-op
any need for assistance in transportation (eg. wheelchair taxi etc.) for the surgery
that kind of thing.
She gave me some names for psychologists etc. for the psychiatric evaluation (to establish I had the mental wherewithal to cope with the surgery and the changing mindset) and offered to set up a referral.
That's all I can remember.
